Nelly’s latest styling project

Posted on Tue, 13 Dec 2011 by KiM

Nelly, a stylist based in Perth, Australia, emailed the other day with photos of her latest project (see her home here and reno/deco project here). It is a GORGEOUS house. She styled it for a photo shoot organized by Scoop Publishing which can be viewed online here – see pages 114-124. The house is an amazing, super-contemporary and quite sustainable weekender for a young Perth-based family who enjoys the wine, food and beach region of Margaret River. It was designed by Craig Steere Architects. It is quite minimalist inside, but I’ve tried to ‘warm it up’ a bit with my styling (although I was given only 3 days before the shoot to source decorative items without even seeing the house…) The artwork featured in the hallway and in one of the bedrooms (above the bed) is by Meleah Farrell. Photos by Heather Robbins of Red Images Fine Photography. Nelly certainly gave it a more homey touch – including hits of orange in the main living spaces. I really am a fan of this house, but on a side note, I think I would have loved to see something besides concrete floors everywhere. The other day I asked my husband if we should consider doing concrete in our new house but after seeing this home I think I changed my mind. I need the warmth that hardwood offers (despite the inevitable cat claw marks).

Ho Ho Ho Merry Christmas

Posted on Tue, 13 Dec 2011 by midcenturyjo

Looking for something just a little different for Christmas decorations? Take a little inspiration from interior designer Chad Falkenberg who has just finished “decking the halls” of a number of Vancouver shops and restaurants for the season.  A wreath made from 100 beer cans, an upside down Christmas tree made from ribbon wrapped kraft paper boxes and a twinkle arch made of live plum trees. Don’t tell my husband about that wreath or we’ll be working through a couple of cartons of beer to get one made before the big day! And I don’t even like beer. You can see more on Chad’s blog.

Nomad

Have you got your hands on Sibella Court‘s new book Nomad yet? A feast of beautiful images, a veritable orgy of fabulous objects, Sibella’s latest is as stunning as her award winning Etcetera. Image after inspiring image, tales of travels and of incorporating treasures into everyday life. It’s globetrotting and daydreaming from the comfort of your lounge chair. Life is so much more beautiful seen through Sibella’s eyes. Nomad is a perfect example of why the printed book will always exist. As wonderful as the images are on screen the experience is taken to a whole other level by just sitting and feeling this tactile book, letting your eyes wander (and wonder) from page to page. The images here are by Sibella’s brother the über talented Chris Court. His lush, colour rich shots convey Sibella’s bower bird aesthetic perfectly. Am I gushing? Yes. This is a must have for those who love a visual feast.

Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 12 Dec 2011 by KiM

If you’d like to send us photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow our basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to  desiretoinspirekim[@]hotmail[.]com and PLEASE don’t send closeups of your pet!)

This is Zoe in her favourite spot in the livingroom. She usually doesn’t like to get photographed, but she felt generous last night and put her best diva expression on. The first image was shot through the terrace door with the X-mas decoration in front of it. The second is a close-up.

Here are two pictures of our rescue pitties, Dasie and Lily.  And one picture of our kitty, Bobcat, soakin’ up the sun.

Attached is a picture of Barkley, my 4 year old Boston Terrier, in his favorite place on the back of the sofa.

I was visiting a friend’s apartment over the weekend with my Dane (Audrey). While getting the tour of her place, we came across her vintage dome chair. My friend immediately came up with the idea of trying to get a shot of my Dane on the chair. After a couple of attempts, we finally got the shot we wanted.

I’ve included a couple of pictures of my little rascal, Sam the Jack Russell, sitting on my couch in the living room. That’s his favorite place in our house, but again, he pretty much owns everything in the house.
– Ke Ying (NYC)

This is my mutt, Casserole, perched on her chair enjoying a sleepy afternoon in my apartment in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Max has headed for higher ground since our puppy came hoem, and is now a regular couch potato!
Pets takeover… Our new dog Lexus who now thinks she’s a cat, between our cats, Max and Gizmo.

Here is my snowshoe Darby on a couple chairs around the house.

Two of my three dogs. Honey on the chair got the upper hand. Daisy had to resort to the pillows.

Dakota my 4 year old lab mix decide this new chair from Ikea is the perfect place for him to sit! Even though it’s a little small 🙂

Oliver, my 4 year old Cavalier King Charles, always hogs the middle of the bed.

Faded elegance

Love the muted marvellousness, the decayed elegance, the almost chalky beauty of these shots by photographer Sharyn Cairns and stylist Glen Proebstel.
