Take me away …

Posted on Tue, 6 Mar 2012 by midcenturyjo

… and pop me into this fabulous room. Oh my. I’m always drawn in by the beauty of ordinary things. And this is very beautiful. From the portfolio of Swedish stylist Tina Hellberg, photography by Idha Lindhag for Elle Interiör.

Stalking a Queen

Posted on Tue, 6 Mar 2012 by midcenturyjo

A Queen Anne Federation home that is. Built c1906 this historic house is imposing with its high ornate plaster ceilings and dark original timber floors. Not trapped in a time warp though. No not at all. A stylish mix of contemporary elegance and period features. With impressive balconies with expansive views and a lush garden it’s a haven in inner city Sydney. A town home that is just as relevant now as it was in 1906. Link here while it lasts.

Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 5 Mar 2012 by KiM

If you’d like to send me photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow my basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim@hotmail.comand PLEASE don’t send closeups of your pet!)

This is my boxer, Stringer Bell sitting in is HIS chair. The chair is a vintage piece my neighbor had placed on the curb.  He said it was taking up space and was setting it out for bulk trash day. I scooped it up and it found it’s place in my living room…after a good washing. The dog, Stringer Bell, named after the character from ‘The Wire’, was supposed to be an aborted puppy along with his three brothers. I worked a vet clinic where a client came in with a near-to-term pregnant boxer. She said she “didn’t have time for puppies” and she needed to spay her dog immediately. The doctor reluctantly obliged but the vet techs, myself included, had other plans to remove the puppies and hand rear them. Stringer Bell was the one I pulled out and helped him breathe his first breath. I bottle fed him, my chihuahua trained him, and we all loved him. My foster puppy soon became another very much loved addition to our family. And the chair….well the chair was a perfect lookout point and a great place for Stringer Bell to sit like the gentleman he is.

Indy thinks all pieces of furniture in our house belong to him. Here he is sitting proudly in my armchair, and then lounging on the large couch we designed and built ourselves.

Hibou might only weigh 3lbs, but she definitely knows how to pick the best seat in the house!

L’idylle rustique

Posted on Mon, 5 Mar 2012 by midcenturyjo

As promised. The rustic perfection, the boho confection. Farmhouse in Bourgogne, France by Joséphine Gintzburger. Strong modern elements juxtaposed with bucolic history. Rough luxe meets Parisian flair.

Oh Joséphine!

Fashion meets interior design. German mimimalism marries French exuberance. If you have seen the March issue of Livingetc then you too have lost your heart (and mind) to Joséphine Gintzburger‘s Paris apartment. Personality dear readers. A great home is always about personality. Unique, intimate with just a touch of exhibitionist. I’m moving in. I’m bringing just a toothbrush. La maison est parfaite. Très chic.

Stay tuned for my next post. Josephine’s interpretation of rural delight.
