Like night and day. Black and white. Inside and out. Front and back. Old and new. Victorian era house and modern extension for sale in Richmond, Melbourne. The dark moody spaces appeal while I think it may be the lighting that leaves me a little cold in the open plan kitchen and family room. Do you see the must have “I’ve made it!” Australian house accessory? It’s the outdoor kitchen. We’re crazy for them here. Link here while it lasts.

Love this 160 square metre cabin located literally in a mountainside. This cabin blends with nature both inside and out, but is unexpectedly furnished with modern Dutch designs (plates, cups, vases and lamps by Hella Jongerius, blankets and pillows Scholten & Baijings, lamps designed by Marcel Wanders, carpets of Claudy Jongstra, and my favourite Danish chair – Papa Bear by Hans Wegner). If you’d like to send me photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow my basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! First up is a pet entry that is very dear to me. Wanda, the angel that took in the homeless cat (now named Desi, last update of her was here) my husband and I were taking care of over the winter, sent me some videos and some fantastic photos of Desi. Here are the pics and a video is here on my page.
Here is Desi laying around, first on my bed which she loves and then on the sofa next to the window, where she watches the squirrels outside. She is the most adorable little cat.

I very happily live in Arequipa Perú with three dogs. This the the big one, Avilés, a street dog before we became friends and he moved in. The photo is of a small corner of the house where my tiny office is. I included the chair but omitted the desk because my 27″ Cinema Display (which is actually larger than the desk!) would make it look like an Apple ad.

This is my lovely manx cat Tobi lounging in his two favorite places. I think he enjoys the warmth the sunshine brings to the spot within the living room. He is resting on a re-covered hotel chair and our large shadowbox table.

This is Fonzi. We adopted him from our local shelter and things have never been the same since. We can usually find him lounging on our bed, but he recently discovered that he could sit on the patio and watch the world go by! 🙂

I have moved to a new house recently, what was a big surprise for my two cats, Cyryl and Kornelia. After few weeks, Cyryl definetely has found his place on earth in the new address, occupying an old, white dresser. Here he is!

This is my lovely rescued cat, Sqeek, so called because that’s the noise she makes instead of meowing. When not curled up in my mother’s favorite basket cuddling her Beetles pillow, she’s snoozing on my mustard  ‘ugly’ armchair, also rescued from a skip in New York city.

In other exciting news my new online store Faded Empire will be live tomorrow (or tonight if I can iron out the last bugs…rewind please… no bugs honestly… just last minute checking). Hop on over and take a look. We have so many more exciting pieces coming in the next few weeks. Jewellery, decor, clothing and furniture are still to be added. My good friend Kerrie and I hope to bring to our Australian audience little treasures from around the world.

That’s the good news. The bad news is that I returned to my government day job today. My how those 6 months flew by! Blogging, online store and day job. I’m a busy girl!

Can’t get enough of Australia via New York and now taking Europe by storm photographer Paul Barbera. We’ve sung his praises here and here and now again. A favourite always stays a firm favourite when the portfolio keeps getting better and better. What I like about Paul Barbera’s work is the scope of his portfolio. He easily adapts from style to style as he snaps for different magazines. A great way to start the week.
