A Tribeca home office

A huge thanks to Dash Marshall for letting us know about this cool project of theirs: The Cassowary Room is a renovation of a single space in a Tribeca loft. It was originally built as a caviar warehouse in the 1890s and then renovated in 2005 before being purchased by the current owners. We rolled back time to create the caviar boss’s office as if it had never been touched, only upgraded with wifi and air-conditioning. That meant designing custom lighting and woodwork and then collaborating with craftsmen to make sure everything is just right. With dutch doors the space works well as a private office when completely closed, or can be left open for more connection to the adjacent living spaces. When the owners’ children are old enough, the Cassowary Room will transition gracefully to a playroom within earshot of the kitchen. I’m blown away. The woodwork is gorgeous! I would LOVE a space like this to get away from all the cats while I blog (one is sitting right next to me as I type this trying to chew on my earbuds).

Why is it called Cassowary Room? I don't see a connection to the Australian/New Guinean flora or fauna…?
In order to be not completly off topic: I think it is functional, beautiful and adds so much character to the space (as does the piano).

Kathy says:

Kraut it might be in reference to the bird on the wall. I love the light fixture and the double doors!

Federica Zama says:

Charming wood work and detailing. Great!

Mike Talbot says:

I want one ! But it looks too expensive must be only for the 1%

Leone says:

Exquisite and beautiful almost beyond words. I really cannot imagine the workmanship that went into creating this. Truly beautiful crafting/workmanship. I already said it , but this is truly exquisite. In awe.

Jessica says:

I heart what these architects achieve its amazing to see how a sense of craft and detailing has not been lost with young architects. Curious to know the cost of construction for this project.

Chad Parker says:

Brilliant! As someone who was a former carpenter its so rewarding to see work being produce that still focuses on details and crating products that stand the test of time.

Emily Brooks says:

Wood wall looks great but not sure if I would have chosen the same decor.

Karen J says:

WOW!!! Love it.

Matthew Evert says:

Superb! But now the rest of the loft looks dull. Maybe they should revert the rest of the loft back to the original state.
