DAR612

Posted on Thu, 14 Jun 2012 by midcenturyjo

Contemporary architecture from Croatia. Family run firm DAR612 create family homes. From concept to completion the approach is holistic and the resulting homes all about shared space. Today I am featuring two apartment renovations that put the client, families, in the centre of the design. The family home is a stage for the rituals of everyday life, to share the precious times without being “precious” or over conceived. Bright, liveable, fun and friendly. A great canvas for the family’s personality. Although I’m concentrating on interiors today (this is an interiors blog remember) don’t miss their new build family homes for more inspiration.

An inspiring workspace

I work in a typical office building that completely lacks any decent decor and frankly, the place is falling apart and should be condemned. So when we received this submission of the new Microsoft headquarters in Vienna, Austria created by architecture firm INNOCAD, I wanted to share it with you all.  We don’t typically blog commercial offices but when I saw the boardroom completely surrounded in wood I was sold. And OMG this place has a slide! FUN!!!

Ka’ana

In the jungle of Belize there is a boutique hotel owned by a group of New Yorkers. It is a dream-come-true vacation spot and I am so grateful one of the owners, Avelin, emailed us about it, if only to get to experience it via photos and a video from their website.
Ka’ana was created for those who appreciate the elegant luxuries of a world class resort, yet yearn to experience new frontiers. Perfectly located in the midst of everything a Central American vacation could possibly offer, Ka’ana is a haven of understated luxury with a considered design style, distinguished culinary experiences and an extensive wine cellar, adjacent to pristine jungle. Experience a true luxury vacation, just steps from the many ancient Mayan ruins of Belize’s jungle. One day…..one day…..

Stalking muted elegance

Refined and elegant, muted colours and old family antiques, stunning views and a pool perched on the edge of the valley. Glen Athan at Berry in the Kangaroo Valley, New South Wales. A 105-acre retreat with a house that blends Australian heritage design with contemporary luxury. Love the wide rustic floor boards, the tongue and groove walls, the wonderful old 12 pane windows and the view. An impressive family pile. For sale here while the link lasts. One would need lots of new money to buy this old money farmhouse.
