cityhomeCollective

Posted on Tue, 25 Sep 2012 by KiM

cityhomeCollective is essentially a real estate agency/design firm in Salt Lake City, Utah…a community collective focused on connecting interesting people with unique spaces. It is run by a very creative group of people who really know how to stage and photograph homes to sell. What this means for DTI is that they have fantastic blog material, like this stunning 3,300 sq ft 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom $1.4 mil modern loft. It’s my dream loft – with 50-foot wall of windows, concrete and brick walls, modern kitchen, space, space and SPACE!

Little loft living

Posted on Tue, 25 Sep 2012 by midcenturyjo

Just a little loft on the inner city fringe. Just a small two bedroom apartment in a warehouse conversion in Chippendale in Sydney. Just a small open plan living area and a private balcony with just enough plants to liven up the place. Just enough midcentury furniture mixed with industrial, found objects and art. Just enough to keep me happy… if I was young and carefree and hadn’t hoarded so much junk over my life time! Link here while it lasts.

Hotel Praktik Metropol

Posted on Tue, 25 Sep 2012 by midcenturyjo

Less is luxe. So say the proprietors of the Hotel Praktik Metropol. Not less in style but less in tariffs. A well priced design hotel in central Madrid on the Gran Via. Remodelling and decoration by Lázaro Rosa-Violán and his Contemporain Studio team. The look is young and fresh, casual chic with everything for the traveller who wants to make the most of their time and their money. When adventure waits on the streets outside, when the guide book leads you from must see site to must see site, when your hotel is your base for experience and not the experience itself then the warm wood floors, white walls and thousands of design details will suit just fine.

LOVE the following home sent in to us by Martin: We recently moved to berlin to continue our studies in architecture. We’re obviously interested in scandinavian design and since we moved here I have the feeling we changed the interior every month. If I should describe our style I would say it’s a good mixture of vintage classics and some modern stuff. As we have a three year old son the apartments interior is quite functional. Martin, Julia and Noah share this space, and I love how classically mid-century it is, with just the right amount of minimalism to make it homey but not stark. When you have great furnishings, sometimes less is more to really showcase the pieces. It frankly makes me want to purge.

Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 24 Sep 2012 by KiM

If you’d like to send me photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow my basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy then it may not make the cut. Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim@hotmail.comand PLEASE don’t send closeups of your pet! Thanks!

This is OJ on our master bed, making himself comfy on the pillows (my mom sewed the cases). If you look closely, you can spot his brother’s tail in the photo, too.

I wanted to send you a photo of my dog, Pickles, who snuck on set at our most recent Lamps Plus catalog shoot. He didn’t make it into the catalog, but the photographer was quick to snap this photo of him, and he’s enjoying his 15 minutes of fame. 🙂

My buddy Miles loves to travel with me and truly appreciates dog-friendly hotels with style. Here he is taking a nap in a boutique-style Westin hotel room.

Our puggle Hektor loves to visit my parents’ house. Not only do they live 10 mins from the beach– providing ample opportunity for running around like a maniac, digging to the center of the earth and eating seaweed– their living room features this uber comfy Shag Pouf from Calypso Home. (Shown in Navy in front of Restoration Hardware’s 1950s Leather Copenhagen Chair.) As you can see, Hektor has come to think of it as his personal pouf.

Noah and MegaCat are pleased that the arrival of fall means that the wood burner is getting used, MegaCat has made the Eames rocker his own but this evening he kindly shoved up so that Noah could join him by the fire warmth.

Attached are photos of Galahad the Irish Wolfhound, age 1, lounging on our chaise or couch. A lovable comedian that loves his creature comforts. He makes any piece of furniture look like it should be in a castle! Attached are photos of my dogs lounging on our chaise or couch. A lovable bunch of comediennes that love their home comforts. Galahad the Irish Wolfhound, age 1. Uther the Jack Russell, age 1. Merlin the Scottish Terrier, age 13. Maab the Scottish Terrier, age 2. Roger the Corgi x Heeler, age 4.

My cat, Marcus, liked to chew on my plants. The only way he could reach this one was to get on the back of the chair.
