Beatriz da Costa

Happy Thanksgiving fellow Canadians! Hope you’re all stuffed with turkey and all the fixins (or going to be tonight). I sure am. I’m thinking we should have Thanksgiving monthly. 🙂 Anyhoo, I have tons of blogging and fall chores to do today as temperatures have dropped by about 30 degrees from last week (AAAGGGHHH!!!) and I’m sitting here in my really badly insulated home office with frozen hands trying to type. That’s on my chore list – getting my smaller desk out of the basement and setting up shop in the living room where I won’t freeze my ass off. So I leave you with some beautiful photography from Brazilia-born photographer Beatriz Da Costa who now works in NY and Paris. Enjoy your day! (P.S. The large artwork in the photo below is amazing!)

Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 8 Oct 2012 by KiM

If you’d like to send me photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow my basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy then it may not make the cut. Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim@hotmail.comand PLEASE don’t send closeups of your pet! Thanks!

This is our Tibetan Terrier, Theodore. We bought this new chair, and he immediately thought it belonged to him.

This is our Scottish Terrier, Grey, checking out the guest room with the newly installed reclaimed wood door headboard. Clearly, he approves and has made himself comfortable.

This is Kahlua, the black dog, and the cat Crème de Menthe with their friend Lexi, on the top of the sofa. Despite reservations on some parts, they posed for this picture in New York. Maybe it was because Lexi was visiting for the weekend that Kahlua agreed to be part of the picture. Normally, she runs as soon as she sees the camera.

I would like to put forward my friend Barbara’s poodle Zoey for Pets on Furniture. Zoey lives in Auckland, New Zealand and in this photo is dressed up in her couture finery on Bastille Day this year.  She is a very quiet and sweet little girl who weighs a mere 3kg or 6 1/2 pounds (smaller than my cats!)
– Fiona

I hereby send you a picture of my funny little cat ‘Otje’. She is extremely fond of the goat and sheepskins we have lying around in our house. She destroyes them all in time, but we adore her!

Here is Beau-Anthony our Bichon Frisee. 14 yrs old.

Mill Valley classic

A cottage remodel in Mill Valley, California. Casually elegant with open plan living, a kitchen to die for and an entrance that welcomes and impresses. Colour brings the spaces to life. A wonderful transformation of a humble house into a welcoming family home. Residential Design by Heydt Designs, Interior Design by Benjamin Dhong and Matthew MacCaul Turner. Photography by David Duncan Livingston.

Doherty Lynch

Contemporary Australian interior design at its best. A lofty statement but true. Part playful, part disciplined approach to spatial design. Pushing boundaries, appreciating the little details. Passion, creativity, enthusiasm, and freshness. Purity of design, an understanding of how people need a space to work, a love of materials and colour. Mardi Doherty and Fiona Lynch. Doherty Lynch. Bright, new Australian design. Inspiring.

Old and new

Posted on Sun, 7 Oct 2012 by KiM

As I’ve stated on this blog at least a dozen times, I love a space that is a combination of old and new. Modern blending with traditional. Opposing genres is unexpected and this tension really does it for me. The apartment below is a dream. Old world architecture that is to die for, mixed with rustic, classic and modern furnishings. The resulting juxtaposition is stunning. And OMG take a close look at the detail in the bedroom ceiling. (Via Le case di Elixìr)
