It’s so much fun to see what a little paint, blood sweat and tears can do to a home that desperately needs an update. Beth sent us some before and after photos of her home that she’s been slaving over for the past year and I am in awe of the transformation. It is now much more modern slathered in white paint, and the kitchen renovation is a ridiculously effective update for not much cash. She’s clearly a fan of mid-century modern design so that’s a bonus in my book. Here are a few before photos to get you started.

Hold on to your hats folks! Here’s what Beth’s home looks like now…

Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 18 Feb 2013 by KiM

If you’d like to send me photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow my basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy then it may not make the cut. Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim@hotmail.comand PLEASE don’t send closeups of your pet! Thanks!

Hampton, our one and a half year old French bulldog on the Eames shell rocker. I passed up this vintage gem a few months back before my boyfriend and I had closed escrow on our new home. After obsessively searching Craigslist week after week I was finally able to track it down.
– Julia (Montebello, CA)

This is Phoebe in my penthouse in Madrid, Spain.
David

This is Teo, I rescued him from the streets this last February 7th. It’s a long story, let’s just say he’s lucky to be alive. Sadly I must give him for adoption and he will be leaving me in 2 days!! 🙁 I am very sad, but he’ll have a great home, I’m sure!! Oh! and the sofa is a family heirloom, very antique. He decided it’s his!
– Cata (Buenos Aires, Argentina)

This is Reese, our black lab mix. She was about 6 months old in this picture. Now she’s about 3.5.
“Photo caption contest, ready? I’ll go first.
“Puppy-hood…it’s all fun & games… until someone eats a chair”
“ok, your turn”

– Andrea (Syracuse, NY)

Betty on vintage chair.

This is “River” our adopted rescue pup from St. Louis Stray Rescue. She is not really allowed on our bed, but when I told her “go to bed” this is where I later found her. The bed frame was designed and built by my father in law for my husband and my wedding gift.
– Deborah

This is Beau, he is a pointer pit mix rescue from the SPCA in Reno, and loves to spend summer days outside making use of our patio furniture, which to this day, he has made more use of, than we have.
– Freddy

Monkey thinks this is his footstool. Apparently he is right.
– Deon (East London, South Africa)

This is Gus.  He lives on every piece of furniture we have.  Tables, chairs, couches, etc.
– Caleigh (Cornwall, Prince Edward Island)

Mocmoc and Hazel Motes on couch. She’s 10+ years old; he’s 1. Both abandoned street dogs that we love with all of our hearts.

Nicole Franzen

New photographer crush! I love every image in self taught Nicole Franzen‘s portfolio. Delicious. Richly layered, beautifully considered lighting, evocative and inspirational. A visual feast. Brooklyn based Franzen may be an amazingly gifted snapper but she is even more obsessed with food, cooking it, styling it, capturing it on film. You can see more on her blog La Buena Vida – the good life. Yum.

Stalking modern in Manly

Posted on Mon, 18 Feb 2013 by midcenturyjo

A contemporary home of plywood, fibre cement and polished concrete by Sydney architects Watershed Design. Multiple living areas which continue out to poolside while bedrooms are on the upper level with leafy views. Passive solar design and consideration of cross ventilation aid cooling and heating but for all its green credentials it is the stunning modern design that impresses. Stalking moments from many Beach in Sydney. Link here while it lasts.
