The cowshed

Posted on Sat, 7 Sep 2013 by midcenturyjo

On a street corner in once gritty inner Sydney suburb sat the remains of an old cowshed, brick and timber standing against the ravages of time. From another era and another way of life the building should not have survived as the surrounding suburb was gentrified. The new owners turned to architects Carter Williamson to save it. Not as a time capsule though but as a vibrant and lively modern home perfect for family and friends, for entertaining or for retreating from the hustle and bustle of the big, brash city.

Villa San Lorenzo

Debora from Italy sent us some photos and info of a restored farm located in the heart of Tuscany. It’s the charming house and the evocative artistic world of Mrs. Paola Vallini, also known as Nerina P., painter. Best thing of the house is the big fireplace in the hall with archway made of red brick. In front of it there is a big and antique oriental rug. The kitchen is furnished with antique Italian pieces made of fine solid wood, and decorated with the family collection of pottery from florentine area. In the garden there’s an old-fashioned oven to make tasty pizzas and fragrant bread. Artworks on walls are all made by Nerina P. This classic Tuscan style home is absolutely beautiful, and would be a dream to visit, with a glass of wine in hand.

That’s how I intend to start my Saturday. A spot just like this would be perfect. Have a great weekend!

esé studio

Crisp contemporary lines are warmed by wood and an earthy colour palette. Shots of colour are used sparingly to punctuate the calm spaces. Changes in level and the repetition of strong vertical elements define each zone. Pared back sophistication is the signature of this Lycabettus Penthouse by Athenian architecture firm esé studio. Modern Greek design at its best.
