An artist’s home

Posted on Tue, 19 Nov 2013 by KiM

This, dear readers, pretty much sums up my dream home. Ah mah gawd. It belongs to British artist Rory Dobner and is located in London. It is perfectly random, quirky, eclectic, vintage and fun. It’s the type of home I could spend hours in scouring every corner to see what surprises I can find. The only thing I’d change is to make the purple settee and chairs a silver or charcoal grey. Yesssssss. Via Elle Decor España, photos by Montse Garriga.

Hot summer nights

You’ll find me here with a bowl of popcorn or maybe a pizza slice and definitely a dip in the pool if the on screen action gets a little too hot. Love this house by Koning Eizenberg.

It’s a wrap

It’s brutal yet at times soft. It’s rough and luxe. It’s concrete and steel, rubber and leather, rope, wool and velvet. It’s industrial with a big city vibe yet zen like and eastern. It’s in the Upper East Side of Manhattan or should I say was. It’s from the mid 90s, designed by Pierce Allen. A slight tweak, new photos and we would never know. Good design stands the test of time.

A colourful apartment

Posted on Mon, 18 Nov 2013 by KiM

I found this fun apartment while doing some blog research and had to share. The 65m2 space is located in Villefranche-sur-Mer, France and is the creation of Turin, Italy based architecture firm MG2 Architetture. It’s a funky blend of modern and mid-century, bold and sassy colour and some of my all-time favourite lighting.

And a little bonus – a couple of extra spaces I found in their portfolio that caught my eye.

Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 18 Nov 2013 by KiM

If you’d like to send me photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow my basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, if the photo is too dark or unfocused then it may not make the cut. Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim[@]hotmail[.]com and PLEASE don’t send closeups of your pet! Thanks!

I was thrilled when I found this Buying & Design chair on the street in perfect condition. My cat, Tulip, was also thrilled, as it brings out the color of her eyes quite well.

This friendly stray cat wanted to be adopted. Every day, she quietly entered our shop and settled on the main window display furniture, hoping to pass unnoticed. For this reason rarely did she move, up until the closing time when we had to take her out, to her disappointment, but with a small treat. She did eventually win our hearts:-) and the heart of a passing neighbour, who saw her through the window and decided to offer her a home.

This is Temperance, our foster failure, announcing her Sofa Princess status. Defiance or not- we couldn’t bring ourselves to say goodbye to those ears!
