More Seth Smoot

Posted on Tue, 8 Apr 2014 by KiM

It’s a rainy, miserable day here in Ottawa – but at least it’s not snowing! I needed a little something to brighten my mood. I think these beautiful spaces captured so perfectly by photographer Seth Smoot ought to do the trick. (We featured Seth last year as well).

Hammam haven

Posted on Tue, 8 Apr 2014 by midcenturyjo

“Amara Wellness Centre is unique in Australia for its wellness-based, organic and authentic Hammam bathing facilities and rituals. Directly inspired by the traditional Turkish bath house, the evocative series of consultation, therapy and steam rooms are linked by a series of black oak corridors connecting circular marble-clad chambers. The Hamman ritual spaces feature meticulously crafted domed and vaulted ceilings with custom made copper bathing vessels ensuing that every aspect of the ritual experience is imbued with design.”

My apologies for taking that directly from the interior designers’ site. The mere thought of indulging in the pleasure of such a centre has me relaxed, chilled out, sloth-like with pure pleasure that I couldn’t find my own words. Design by Melbourne based CoLAB, a collaboration between Anna Drummond and Trish Turner.

Retrouve

Posted on Tue, 8 Apr 2014 by midcenturyjo

Retrouve – to find again, to recapture, to rediscover, to meet again. Retrouve – a small design studio creating interiors, designing courtyards, sourcing furniture. A creative space and a family home for the owner Trudy Gould. A perfect example of her creativity.

Petra Bindel, again

Posted on Mon, 7 Apr 2014 by KiM

It was a loooooooong, exhausting weekend (more on that later in the week when I go through my photos from the Ottawa Antique Show), and I need a day to recuperate. Since that is not going to happen I need a dose of interior eye candy to get me through the day. Petra Bindel is one of my favourite photographers, so this should do the trick. 🙂

Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 7 Apr 2014 by KiM

If you’d like to send me photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow my basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, if the photo is too dark or unfocused then it may not make the cut. Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to kim[at]desiretoinspire[dot]net and PLEASE don’t send closeups of your pet! Thanks!

Dodger is relaxing in a shell chair!
– Maja (Chicago)

This is Bandi our funny dwarf rabbit. He owns the whole flat. It is pretty easy to find him in the snow white interior design. He is looking around from a refurbished retro armchair on the picture. I painted the picture on the wall that I have seen online from my favourite illustrator. I am going to make a lamp from the mannequin soon.
– Edina (Hungary)

This is our 3-year old Boston, Tank, settling in on the back of our couch for an evening of TV with the folks :).
– Donna (Dallas, TX)

Attached is a photo of our cats who have claimed every piece of furniture in our house. Here they are in the living room. “Bear”, our male cat wants nothing to do with the camera so he is on the move from the sofa. “Jessie” our female cat loves her red chair! (umm! do you think we have enough remotes and telephones?!!)
– Dianne (Playa Del Rey, CA)

this is william, our 4 year old westie, having one of his daily snoring breaks…

This is Misza, russian blue. Once visited Pets on furniture, here in new home, also in Warsaw.

And one from me. Lucky laying on my vintage wooden crate filled with wool blankets in the living room that the cats are supposed to stay away from.
