Stalking

Posted on Mon, 7 Apr 2014 by midcenturyjo

I just want to run around and mess it up a bit. Not too much. Just kick off my shoes at the door, maybe leave the mail on the dining table, definitely forget to put out those patio cushions (or probably forget to pull them in in bad weather) and that rug and chair in the front yard wouldn’t last two minutes before someone knicked off with them. A little too over styled for the photo shoot but still with lots of cool ideas. Stalking in Paddington, Sydney. Link here while it lasts.

Cabanas no Rio

Posted on Mon, 7 Apr 2014 by midcenturyjo

Perched on the tidal waters of Comporta south of Lisbon, Portugal are two small cabins. Crafted from recycled timber they reference the local fishermen’s huts. The first cabin contains a bedroom and bathroom. The second a living space with basic kitchen. Simple and beautiful, romantic and at one with the wetlands. Cabanas no Rio by architect Manuel Aires Mateus. In my dreams I am there already.

Ariele Alasko

One of the coolest Instagram accounts that I follow is that of Ariele Alasko (@arielealasko). She is a woodworker and furniture builder living in Brooklyn, NY. Her creations, from spalted maple bowls and walnut spoons, to wall panels and headboards, are spectacular. Her attention to detail is impeccable – she even has enough patience to fill walls with eucalyptus leaves! It’s craziness I tell ya. You can check out her work on her website, but it is her home and studio (10 blocks away from each other – sweet!) in particular that I wanted to share with you today. They are beautiful and inspiring, filled with vintage finds and bits from nature but my favourite are her adorable pets – Mr. C the cat and Mazie the pitbull/boxer mix. I had a hard time narrowing down photos of these 2 spaces from her IG stream. So lovely. (Photos with permission from Ariele)

Reader’s home – Margrethe’s loft

Posted on Fri, 4 Apr 2014 by KiM

I am in love with this loft apartment. It is the home of photographer Margrethe Myhrer (Jo featured her work here), her boyfriend Henrik and their baby daughter Alma, located in Majorstua, the west side of Oslo, Norway. Those beams! Those leather dining chairs! The concrete in the kitchen and bathroom! Margrethe’s stunning photographs on the walls! AAAHHHHH!!!!! This is a little slice of heaven. And with that, happy Friday dear readers!

P.S. For folks in and around Ottawa, don’t forget about the Ottawa Antique Show tomorrow and Sunday. I’ll be there so stop by the Daff Design booth and say hi!
