Rocking chair love

A few weeks ago when hubby and I were antiquing in small town Ontario, I spotted an old wooden rocking chair outside of a shop right where we parked our car. Each time we brought a load of treasures to the car (there were a few), I caught myself checking out the chair. It was really nothing special, and had some gawd awful floral design along the top piece that would have needed painting over (no biggie). The chair was already painted black so it seemed perfect for me from the get-go. And I did not buy it. I have no room in my home for new furniture unless I clean out my basement (a very daunting task). But it would have looked really sweet on my front porch (if my husband doesn’t end up making me the L-shaped bench I have been hinting at). I regret not buying it – and I think it was only $35. AGH!! Since then I have been thinking about rocking chairs so I decided to do a post all about this style of chair. Rockin’ out! 🙂

Bedroom love

I love this bedroom. The simplicity. The lack of colour. The rumpled cotton bedding. Whatever the hell that is going on in the windows. Via Domino

Bungalow 5 giveaway!

Posted on Mon, 28 Apr 2014 by KiM

I am really excited to announce that we have a giveaway for you all running this week and the prize is pretty sweet! One of our sponsors, the lovely folks over at Bungalow 5, are offering THE LAMP OF YOUR CHOICE from their line of lighting! And you get a shade! And they will ship it to you for free! I went through their entire lamp selection and I guarantee there every room in your home could use that little extra OOMPF with one of their lamps. I can’t decide which I like more – the classy Tao lamp? The glam Venice lamp? The mid-century Mariah lamp? The bold, Asian-style Leaf lamp? I am sure you can narrow down your choice to one that you just have to have. All you need to do to enter is to leave a comment on Bungalow 5’s Instagram photo or their Facebook entry of the giveaway, including the lamp you would choose if you won. It’s that simple. (Open to USA and Canada residents only, and the winner will be announced next Monday on Bungalow 5’s FB and IG).

Here are some spaces that demonstrate just how much impact a fabulous lamp can have…

And in case you were not quite sold yet (??!!) here are a few more shots from Bungalow 5’s showroom.

Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 28 Apr 2014 by KiM

If you’d like to send me photos to include in next week’s pets on furniture post, please ensure your photos follow these basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you wan t to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, if the photo is too dark or unfocused it may not make the cut. Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to kim[at]desiretoinspire[dot]net and PLEASE don’t send closeups of your pet! Thanks!

Our pets lying in an armchair, as lazy usual. We have an on/offline decor shop (reallynicethings.es), and they spend all day long working with us in the showroom (but in a much comfy way).

I bought my house in August 2012 when I was just 23. I read your blog daily and it has been a great source of inspiration over the years, picking out kitchens, floors furniture, fireplaces. I often considered sending in photos but the house wasn’t quite ready. I lived here since January 2013 with my partner David, but as the house was becoming complete we realised we were missing something. So last November we got Henry from a friend who no longer had the space for him in a city centre apartment.
This is Henry. I tried to get a few pics of him lying down but he usually lies on the floor. He loves lying on the herringbone floor in the kitchen. I think he is a bit vain, because he wanted to be sitting up when he saw the camera.

These are our two rescue kitties, Hazel and Marcel, on our new (to us) Danish midcentury sideboard. They like it mostly because it gives them easy access to look out the window and keep tabs on the squirrels. I got up to snap a photo of them hanging out in the gorgeous afternoon light and at the last second they both turned around to see what I was doing.

1 – This is Maddie on the back of the sofa. He passed away at the end of January 2014 and I miss him daily. If you look behind him you’ll see Sky. My cats love the back sofa cushions. What pet doesn’t?!
2 – Tigger on the sideboard (I have several gray and white males). Tigger was pulled from the kill list at the NYC shelter. He was considered vicious but he was just scared. He’s the biggest marshmallow ever. And I do mean big – 27 lbs.
3 – Maddie, Sky and Scout together on the sofa.
4 – I stepped out to the balcony this afternoon and saw Tigger snoozing in the fountain (yet to be filled with water).
