One day, when I no longer work downtown and have to worry about commuting (which is why my current house is a 30 minute walk to work), I would love to live in a home in the middle of nowhere. A home with trees and mountain views, with massive windows and soaring cielings. Idealy, a modernized barn. Many of the homes designed by New York-based architecture and design firm BarlisWedlick are essentially my dream homes. Rustic and country on the outside (with hints of modernism) and contemporary on the inside. This talented team has created lofts, penthouses, cottages, rural compounds, barns and everything else in between into gorgeous residences which I imagine are dream homes to the owners.

Their work is beautiful and most of their buildings are about 2.5 hours from New York City in Columbia County — the best of both worlds. I saw the first house (passive solar) when it was for sale.
