A cool modern kitchen

Posted on Wed, 2 Jul 2014 by KiM

I had to share this cool, modern kitchen with you all because black kitchens are a favourite of mine. I do have to say that black countertops suck, as my mom always bitches about hers, and my new house has black and I am quickly learning what a pain it is to keep streak-free. And helloooo herringbone floors that would have been so much more amazing with a light grey wash instead of yellow stain. But otherwise, a totally fab and fun kitchen by Camille Hermand Architectures (Jo blogged another one of their kitchens here). Here are some details: A family of four, with a new baby on the way, live in this large apartment in the chic 7th quarter of Paris. They wanted to the maximise space in their busy family kitchen, by fusing the existing kitchen with the adjoining dining room. To the left, the Zimbabwe black granite work surface runs parallel to the wall of full-length fitted cupboards to the right. The cupboards running under the work surface, which are made-to-measure and hand-painted in mat black emulsion, camouflage discretely the oven and hob. The remaining kitchen appliances are neatly out of sight in the full length cupboards to the right of the room. Running along the wall over the black granite work surface is cement Azulej tiling. In the centre of the full length cupboards is the breakfast hub, with plenty of space for all the necessary breakfast appliances. The back wall of the hub is covered with colourful and graphic wallpaper by Minakani Lab.

Jennifer Worts, again

I came across Toronto interior designer Jennifer Worts‘ portfolio the other day and thought I would feature her work again (see previous posts here and here) because I continue to be a big fan of hers. Fresh and contemporary, elegant yet casual. Always knockout spaces.

Drift House

Posted on Wed, 2 Jul 2014 by midcenturyjo

I’m still trying to escape the mid week blues. This time I’m off to Drift House in Port Fairy Victoria. Unique, individual, bespoke. The choice of four apartments contained within the original 19th century building and its very modern addition. Design by award winning architectural firm Multiplicity.

Kuća Kamena

Posted on Wed, 2 Jul 2014 by midcenturyjo

It’s Wednesday. The middle of a long working week. Hump day. Need a little daydream to make it through the day, the week? Time to take a virtual holiday to the Dalmatian coast of Croatia. To a simple stone house, to Kuća Kamena in Novigrad (of Croatia’s four Novigrads this one is the one that is famous for not being famous). To the home of artist and designer Boris Kajmak and, if you like, yours for a little while. Rustic beauty in a beautiful part of the world.

A joint venture

Henny van Belkom and Javotte Gustafsson from Amsterdam are interior photographer/stylist duo Van Belkom Producties whom together create and capture magical spaces. I wish I could say more but I am too damn exhausted after 4 days of moving. What a dumb idea to not hire movers!

Happy Canada Day!!!!!
