NOVONO – apartment #1

Posted on Mon, 6 Oct 2014 by KiM

This is the first of two projects I wanted to share with you from Berlin interior architecture firm NOVONO. Founder and director Nora von Nordenskjöld designed this apartment in Berlin with a distinctive global vibe. Swathed in rich earth tones with a mix of ethnic and mid-century furnishings, this modern residence is serene and welcoming. I love every inch of it. (Photos: © Ulf Saupe – Done Studios)

P.S. Sorry folks, due to a shortage of entries, pets on furniture should hopefully be back next week.

Nomad Living

Posted on Mon, 6 Oct 2014 by midcenturyjo

I do believe I love a shipping container conversion almost as much as a church conversion. There’s something about taking an empty steel box and turning it into a home, a getaway, a backyard retreat, an office, whatever and wherever you want. This one is by Portuguese architectural firm Studio ARTE as part of their Nomad Living project.

Butterfly blue

A contemporary take on a traditional kitchen with butterfly blue and hidden wood grain touches. Loads of natural light reflecting off white surfaces and then that flash of blue. Another lovely space to cook and connect with family and friends by Blakes London.

Light and dark in Copenhagen

Posted on Sun, 5 Oct 2014 by KiM

This beautiful home was recently featured in Nuevo Estilo, a perfect blend of light and dark (although I personally would add a bit more dark). Built in 1898 and located on the outskirts of Copenhagen, it is home to Sofie and Frank Christensen Egelund and their 4 children. (You will notice several Vipp pedal bins around – Sofie currently runs the company that her grandfather created). I love the shocking contrast of the dark kitchen – what a gorgeous colour.

Stalking leftovers

Posted on Sat, 4 Oct 2014 by midcenturyjo

Wedding season is in full swing here in Australia and seeing that my new career incarnation involves catering and events then guess what I’ll be doing this afternoon and into the evening? Working. Still hasn’t stopped me stalking this week. Here are the leftovers. The ones that didn’t make the cut. Call me particular, finicky, choosy and hard to please. Not quite right, bad photos, I need more photos please, house is amazing furniture is deplorable or even fab furniture shabby shell. Can’t quite put my finger on it listings with something that has me nodding “yes”. This week’s finds include an old rectory with a stunning garden, a classic example of the Sydney School style of architecture and a converted dairy in inner city Melbourne. All via realestate.com.au.
