Courtney Nye

LOVE LOVE LOVE these spaces designed by Portland, OR interior designer Courtney Nye. She blends so many different styles together and somehow manages to create such beautifully cohesive rooms that are complete eye candy. Like the kitchen in the first 2 photos. The cabinet colour (mint?) is surprisingly perfect with the subway tiles and steel accents.

Kitchen calm

Fabulous kitchen by Michaelis Boyd. You almost wouldn’t want to leave this simple yet stylish space. Until you realise what’s outside.

Inside Out hits the newstands tomorrow and yes Managaing Editor Lee Tran Lam has sent us a sneak peek but what a house! Colour overload. Makes me want to do my happy dance. I’ll let Lee Tran tell you a little more about this New Zealand gem.

“I’ve got some eye-catching pixels from the new issue of the magazine, out Thursday, and they’re from a home that definitely hunts out your attention!he house belongs to designer Alex Fulton and was styled by LeeAnn Yare and photographed by Larnie Nicolson. I love how Alex’s style is completely unbound and each room has a one-of-a-kind feel – such as the green wallpaper that flourishes all across the surface of her living room, and the sofa that matches its well-cultivated and growing patterns! There’s also her daughter Isla’s room, which Alex has given a confetti-like scatter of graphics, by applying stationery spots on the walls. And in the bathroom, she ‘serves’ a fruit salad above the sink and decorates a lamp with an upside-down pendant. This is a home that’s shot through with original idea after original idea.”

Aussie readers can pick up their copy of the February Inside Out on Thursday. Don’t fret if you aren’t in Australia because you can read along on  ZinioGoogle Play,  the Apple Newsstand and Nook.

I can’t get enough of The New Design Project‘s work. I spotted this beauty (located in Le Marais, Paris) on their site and had to share it as well. The perfect little Parisian hangout. The challenge in this 30m2 (320ft2) studio was to retain the quirkiness of the space whilst making it more practical. We decided to create an alcove bedroom with a half height wall to improve the general flow whilst keeping the apartment bright and airy. A simple and monochromatic palette was used in the “utilitarian areas” (kitchen, bathroom) to let the ambient charm shine through. Most of the items are flea market finds (Paris, London, Isle-sur-la-Sorgue) but we mixed vintage with industrial pieces, and high street with designer, to create an overall more eclectic look. A loft apartment by The New Design Project

This is another one of those scenarios where I apparently have been living under a rather large rock. How have I never come across this super talented design firm, based in Brooklyn NY, founded by an Anglo-French husband and wife team of ex-bankers? The New Design Project is Fanny Abbes and James Davison and their style rocks my world. Exhibit A – I LOVE THIS LOFT!!! A young couple’s urban residence is enriched with bursts of bold color and texture, transforming it into an elegant and modern apartment full of strong and vibrant flavors. Modern pieces have been combined with playful accents and ethnic touches to create a space that is eclectic but undeniably urban, and is cool and relaxed whilst feeling grown-up. The use of simple graphic patterns and vivid colors tones down the existing woodwork and prevents the space from feeling overly rustic. Design by Fanny Abbes, photos by Alan Gastelum.
