Grey is the new black

Posted on Mon, 2 Feb 2015 by KiM

I have been proclaiming my love of grey as the unrivaled neutral for years now, and frankly, grey is the new black. Many people will soon have grey on their minds as the release of the Fifty Shades of Grey movie is coming in a couple of weeks (around Valentine’s Day, coincidentally). I got together with Hamacha and Sun from clothing e-destination Theory of Gaia who will be sharing photos from this post over on Gaia Full Circle, and in the spirit of this theme, they sent me a beautiful grey sweater dress. So without further ado, I present you with a selection of some juicy grey room porn.

Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 2 Feb 2015 by KiM

If you would like to send me photos to include in the next pets on furniture post, please ensure your photos follow these basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, if the photo is too dark or unfocused it may not make the cut. Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to kim[at]desiretoinspire[dot]net. Thanks!

This is a photo of our Scottie, Greyson on a refurbished ottoman. Any piece of furniture close to a window tends to be his favorite place to watch for evil squirrels. He’s our wee hero.
Pat (Carleton Place, ON)

Here are a couple of pictures of our beloved 2-year-old beagle puppy named Glasha. She is a big fan of Eames side chairs! 🙂
– Maria (Russia)

Here’s the lovely late Cyla on her (and my) favourite chair. After a very hard life, this lovely one-eyed pit bull had three divine final years surrounded by love and fine design 🙂
– Liz

🙁 RIP Cyla

This is my cat Loomis, who was a rescue from the local shelter. He turned out to be a bit more troubled than expected, but time (and medication) have softened his fears, and things are turning around for the better. In the first photo, he is perched in his favorite warm weather spot, reaching out for and basking in a rare moment of dappled Seattle sunlight. In the second, he turns his attention to me. He is under an enormous painting of Vladimir Lenin, a favorite Ebay find of mine.
– Tamara

I’m sending you two photos with my cat named L’Oficial. In the first one, he is sitting on an old 60s armchair and beside there’s one recycled Marcel Breuer recovered with a coloured clothing. In the second one, he’s beside an oriental fish-shaped bench (I don’t know exactly where it’s from).
– Sara (Seville, Spain)

Introducing Ursa, our elegant German Shepherd, aka Mrs. Kaufman. She is devoted as you can see, to Mr. Kaufman.
– Kari (the other Mrs Kaufman, NYC)

Here is a picture of my Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier – Miss Darcy – in her New Year’s Eve outfit sitting on our 4 poster mahogany bed. The collar lasted all evening but the “Fascinator” only made it to 30 seconds before it was gone!
– Cheryl (Prince Edward County, ON)

Here is my 7 year old rescue cat Tang lounging on his favourite chair – a wishbone reproduction.
– Kimmy

Our two miniature schnauzers relaxing on Grandma’s couch in Northern Wisconsin
– Timberly

This isn’t the most technically beautiful picture.  But this is the first time my beautiful greyhound, “Harri-Berri” has been caught nesting on my bed when I was not home.  My pups are not allowed on the furniture and they KNOW it.  However…Miss Harri takes full advantage of the comfort of my bed when I’m away.  We all know she does it; the arrangement of pillows and down comforters when I get home, are the unmistakable evidence.  This photo was snapped by my housemate on her phone and sent to me.  :o)  Doggie indulgence—Priceless!
Toni

It’s tough to work from home when I have these babies looking at me. Sadie is a Blue Heeler Hound mix pleading for a belly rub. Zuzu is a Rat Terrier imploring me to get off my computer and PAY ATTENTION! Sadie loves to sprawl on the mid century sofa I found in a thrift shop.
– Susan (Saint Paul, MN)

Dogs on furniture
– Lana

P.S. Some of you may know I have been feeding some stray kittens since I discovered them in the dilapidated garage of a home I walk by on my way to/from work. My husband took a video while we stopped to feed them before doing errands yesterday – you can view it on my page. Good news – a local resuce organization called The Avery Foundation has offered to help rescue them! (Bad news – in the video their mom makes a rare appearance and looks to be VERY pregnant)

More from The Loft

Posted on Mon, 2 Feb 2015 by midcenturyjo

Actually that should read “First from The Loft“.The pop up shop as dream home in the previous post was actually The Loft‘s second installation. Here is their first, a summer version, from mid last year. Equally fab but you’ll have to admit that a building’s amazing bones (like version 2 below) make for an even more amazing experience.

The Loft

It’s a concept that is growing all over the world. A pop up shop styled as a hip and happening home where everything is for sale. One minute an empty space. The next a drool worthy abode where shoppers can buy one item or the whole concept. In the case of The Loft in Amsterdam I doubt they would have been able to get the customers to leave at the end of the day. Never mind if you missed it’s recent three week run though. The pieces are also available online or perhaps you’ll just hang out for the next super cool pop up.
