Norwegian inspiration

Posted on Sun, 22 Mar 2015 by KiM

Before I dash off to another day of craziness at the Ottawa Antique & Vintage Market to help with hubby’s Daff Design booth, I wanted to share these spaces from Norwegian magazine KK Living that left me drooling all over my keyboard. I particularly adore the home of Line Evensen featured in the photos before the jump – such a wonderfully eclectic mix of styles that is so random it works. Working on a Saturday

So starkly elegant. So, so restrained. Like the essence of good taste, distilled, concentrated and stoppered in a crystal bottle. Open it and your head hurts. A hairdressing salon with Art Deco references and beautiful bespoke fittings and furniture by Pietro Russo. Of course the shots are of the space sans clutter, towels and hair clippings but then again such an exclusive salon would have a bevy of apprentices at the ready to sweep and zhush.

Happy Friday!

Happy Friday dear readers! It has been a doozy of a week – I managed to trap my 3 feral kittens (HOORAY!), and now I am helping my husband get ready for the Ottawa Antique & Vintage Market happening tomorrow and Sunday. So I leave you with this photo, featuring one of the coolest ideas for a side table I have ever seen. Via Casa Abril, photo by Marco Antonio

Living with plants (and cats)

Posted on Fri, 20 Mar 2015 by KiM

While moving from gate to gate at the Puerto Vallarta airport (they are so freaking disorganized) a couple of weeks ago, I stumbled across this apartment in the latest issue of Elle Decoration Mexico. I have an obsession with plants, which is pretty hilarious considering I am only mediocre at keeping them alive, so this home really drew me in. It is the Auckland, New Zealand home of stylist Charlotte Rust and it is filled with plants! And a couple of cats! The contrast between the raw, lifeless concrete and the beautiful greenery is lovely. This is a perfect example of how you can easily warm up a space. Plants always help. So do cats. 🙂 (Perfectly captured by photographer by Jessica MacCormick)

Mews house stalking

Posted on Fri, 20 Mar 2015 by midcenturyjo

An extraordinary mews house, over 4 levels, beautifully refurbished by Fossey Arora. As for the location how about St Luke’s Mews in Notting Hill? I’m real estate stalking in London via Domus Nova. A girl can dream right? I want to start at the top where my favourite bits are but, no, we’ll do it the right way and start from the front door…
