Working on a Saturday

Posted on Sat, 13 Jun 2015 by midcenturyjo

If you have to work on the weekend then it should be somewhere stylish. Loving the new offices for BlueSky Alternative Investments by Brisbane-based Marc&Co Architects. Clever use of open space planning, applied decoration and bright, modern colour palette. The sort of place I’d want to spend a Saturday hard at work.

LOVE!

While on a roll with rustic, weathered posts….there is something SOOOO GOOD about an old beat up leather chair. Via Nuevo Estilo.

Just a quick note: For those in Ottawa Sunday, it’s the first ever ManMade show at Mill Street Brew Pub – with 30 dude-worthy crafty vendors selling their goods, and there will be FREE BEER!!!!

My husband Jeff has a booth for his Daff Design products (mainly vintage radios converted into Bluetooth speakers). This morning he sampled his first floor model radio to me and OMG! I think he will be bringing it to ManMade so come on out and listen to it and check the other radios out. It’s going to be a BLAST! Cause craftalicious goodies AND BEER!

Kurtwood Farms

I came across the website of Kurtwood Farms the other day while doing some random googling and my heart just about burst. I love city life, but to have all of this space, to have as many animals as I wanted (and not break any laws like I am now) and to have an honest-to-gawd cabin to decorate would be a dream come true. Kurtwood Farms is located on Vashon Island near Seattle and has everything, a creamery, pond, bullpen, cheese cave, wood fired oven, milking parlor, cookhouse…and this log house. It is breathtaking in all its original and rustic glory.

Holly Hickey Moore

I recently discovered interior designer Holly Hickey Moore‘s work and I love her style. She is focused on creating vibrant, layered, and eclectic interiors. With every project, she strives to design a timeless living environment with multi-generational appeal. She is edgy (and a little rebellious), designing spaces that are complex and unique, yet intuitive and comfortable. She primarily works in New England and Texas but is looking to branch out to New Zealand (where her husband is from) and Australia (perhaps I could convince her she needs me as an assistant ;)). This home in particular I really like for its funky midcentury modern/retro vibe. To complement the architecture, the look is inspired by Palm Springs in the 60s. Accordingly, artwork and décor is bright, bold and beautiful. Restored vintage furnishings and lighting are mixed in with new elements. Additionally, the white walls act as a canvas for the colorful works of art, most of which are original pieces by the family members. The open floor plan and glazing across the back of the house gives a sense of being outside. Can I get a HELL YEAH for the tumbled block tiles above. !!!!!!
