Another project by Hugh Randolph Architects

Posted on Wed, 16 Sep 2015 by KiM

I wanted to share a little glimpse into this home that was also transformed by High Randolph Architects. It is a bit gothic, a bit modern, and beautifully decorated by the homeowners (which must be quite a relief to an architect).

Palma Plaza

Hugh Randolph Architects updated this 1935 Greek Revival cottage in Austin, Texas and the result is functional and modern yet honouring its past and maintaining the traditional look of the exterior. This is my favourite type of renovation – traditional facade with an unexpected surprise on the inside (and some great use of under-the-stairs space!). The exterior of this home is absolutely gorgeous. I think this needs to go in my inspiration file.

InForm Design +2

One more from InForm Design, a townhouse, one of three in a row. Contemporary Australian design done well. I think my favourite bit is the hallway/staircase. I love the sense of transition, the attention given to the process of travel between public and private, the light that floods into what could have been a long, dark corridor.

InForm

From design to construction, that’s the holistic approach of Melbourne-based InForm Design. Their Alphington house consists of two halves. The two-storey ‘Quad’ front section is designed to take advantage of park views from the first floor master bedroom and lounge. Out back is a single storey pavilion containing the living areas separated by a concrete block double-sided fireplace. These spaces spill out to the alfresco entertaining spaces and pool.

Margarida’s outdoor oasis

Posted on Tue, 15 Sep 2015 by KiM

You may recall this post of Margarida’s weekend home in Portugal back in 2013. Well it seems Margarida has been hard at work on the exterior of her home, despite 45°C heat (which would explain the expanse of brown in the photo above). I detest winter, so this time of the year really gets me down as it is the end of warm weather for a very long time….which is why I really needed to feature this lovely outdoor space. Anything to transport me to warmer climates…
