Escape from winter – an update

Posted on Wed, 7 Oct 2015 by KiM

Back in 2012 I published this post that featured some outdoor spaces by Jeffrey Gordon Smith Landscape Architecture which included some photos of the Santa Barbara backyard of interior stylist Elizabeth Burns. Elizabeth had the plans from Jeffrey for the remainder of her yard and finally implemented them this year. The result is so freaking gorgeous! GAWD how I wish I lived WAY more south in order to be able to grow such beautiful plants and enjoy such a wonderful backyard all year round. Congrats Elizabeth – I bet Jeffrey is very pleased with what you have done.

Ministerstwo Spraw We Wnętrzach

Marcin and Magda Konopka are the duo behind Ministerstwo Spraw We Wnętrzach (Ministry of Interior Affairs) based in Gdansk, Poland. This is one of their projects – Grand Oak House, where beautiful and warm oak played a central role. Nods towards nature including forest and wheat murals and earthy colours mixed with grey warm up the modern architectural elements of concrete and steel. Gorgeous.

Holzhaus am Auerbach

Only 4 meters wide this holiday house in the small town of Oberaudorf in Bavaria, Germany packs a lot of punch in its small footprint. Cantilevered balconies on either side allow for indoor/outdoor living while a series of levels rise through the 2 storey interior. By Christine Arnhard and Markus Eck of Munich-based architectural firm Arnhard und Eck not only is it their own getaway but you can rent it too.

I have a stalking problem

Posted on Wed, 7 Oct 2015 by midcenturyjo

Help! Help! Anyone out there? I’m still here, trapped in the real estate listings, stalking, stalking, stalking. New build. Brighton in Melbourne. A little sparse. Needs to be “broken in”, some personality added. Love the outdoor areas. Love that bathroom. That bedroom needs help and the photos are definitely not helping. Link here while it lasts. Can I get out now? Hello? Hello?

Dramatic colour

One of my personal favourite dramatic colour combinations is black, white, grey and yellow. This model apartment designed by British design firm Honky is modern and funky with cool whites, smoky greys with accents in black and yellow and bits of gold. Graphic and edgy works really well to reel in potential buyers. I adore the bird print above.
