Summertime in the backyard

Posted on Tue, 8 Dec 2015 by midcenturyjo

Please forgive me but I just can’t get enough backyard inspiration at the moment. Summer time in Australia is all about opening the inside to the out, living, eating, drinking and even showering outside. OK, OK the showering is more about washing the salt and sand off after a trip to the beach. I love the small but simply stylish backyard at this Manly, Sydney home designed by Harrison’s Landscaping. I see books and drinks and friends and catching the breeze. I see summer in the backyard.

A Polish apartment

I think what I love most about this 70 m2 apartment in Sopot, Poland is its freshness. The light, bright rooms, all the white and that standout shelving system/room divider with all its beautiful greenery. Such a clever way to divide the space. Let’s start at the front door. Yes, yes, walk further in, turn and then you start to smile. Yes. See what I mean. Aquarius by LOFT, a designer workshop founded by Magdalena Adamus.

A Tuscan kitchen

Posted on Mon, 7 Dec 2015 by KiM

It has been a while since I featured the brilliant kitchens of UK-based design firm Artichoke. They sent over photos of a recently completed Tuscan-inspired kitchen that is so beautifully designed and SO spacious. I am in love. A variety of furniture styles were deployed in this bespoke kitchen to give the impression that the room had evolved over time. The central islands were designed in plaster, with hand planed and finished arched chestnut doors at the ends, typical of the local vernacular. The dresser uses bespoke espagnolette ironmongery with rounded inside moulds on the lay-on door frame to introduce a French element, while the furniture flanking the Wolf range oven is more Georgian in feel.

All white

In complete contrast to my “All black” post yesterday which did not get any love, I bring you this all white space by Loft Szczecin. Where I love dark spaces for their drama, there is something to be said about the brightness of a monochromatic white home. More from Kate Challis

What could have been another ho-hum apartment is bursting at the seams with personality thanks to a re-design by Kate Challis Interiors. A bachelor pad in Elwood, Melbourne had been just a place to sleep and eat and dump the briefcase. Now it’s a stylish home with humour and soul.
