A traditional home for modern family living

When did “traditional” become a dirty word? Why are we obsessed with boho scandi, mid-century modern, crisp concrete minimalism or funky inner-city hipster cool? This traditional yet modern Santa Monica house by architect Tim Barber is the perfect family home. Stylish and sophisticated but also practical and child friendly. And as much as I like the interiors it’s the exterior and outdoor spaces that have me rethinking my mid-century boho hipster scandi minimalism.

I tend to lean towards traditional decor in my own home. I absolutely adore this home! You are right, those outdoor areas are stunning!

Axie says:

I'm not a traditional style person but this home is gorgeous- and looks so comfortable. I too love the outside areas best, though.

Jared Hayden says:

There's much to be said for the discreet charm of the bourgeoisie.

Ruth says:

Jared, I couldn't have said it better. Right on the nose.

I had a very traditional home when I lived in Connecticut but have moved to a more rustic organic farmhouse style now that I live in Santa Barbara. I adore this house and was surprised to learn that it is in Santa Monica, CA. I would have thought it was from New England. It's traditional without being stuffy…perfect!

rose says:

I agree with Axie. This house looks so comfortable – I just want to settle right in.

Beth says:

I want a secret cubby space in my bedroom, too!
