Casa Sumaré

A couple of months ago Jo featured a project by Brazilian architect Felipe Hess that was fresh and colourful with some fun graphic patterns. I came across this project of Felipe’s that is quite the opposite. Not what we typically see from a Brazilian – this one is very subdued, modern and minimalist. I love it for those reasons. And because someone clearly has great taste in chairs (Hans Wegner’s Hoop and Peacock).

A classic six prewar apartment

Emily C. Butler turns spaces into cozy, pretty hangouts you never want to leave. Like this ‘classic six‘ (new term to me) prewar apartment that’s all kinds of cute. And her bio cracked me up. Beginning my professional career in finance in Texas, I am grateful I have an excellent business foundation. However, more troubled by the folding of shelter design magazine Domino in 2009 than the greater economic crisis at hand, I knew it was time for a career transformation. 🙂

A farmhouse with modern touches

There is nothing like neutral, earthy colours that makes you want to stop, smell the flowers and hug someone. This family-friendly farmhouse in New South Wales, Australia by Cottonwood Interiors is a bit classic American, a bit Scandinavian and just about the coziest home I have seen in a long time. Understated, relaxed yet elegant. Always a winning combination that stands the test of time.

A modern marriage

The facade of this Hawthorn, Melbourne house may be traditional but behind the glossy black door is a sophisticated, contemporary home. The renovation by Austin Design Associates is rich with bespoke details and beautiful finishes. (The joinery is a standout of the property.) A palette of black and white is warmed with golden wood and metal in the open plan kitchen/dining/living areas while a playful dose of greens and yellows is a surprise in the family room. A beautiful home. A perfectly modern marriage of the old and the new.

Not so mellow yellow

An easy way to add some drama to your home is with colour. Yellow is the happiest colour of all so why not paint your kitchen chairs/stairs/buffet yellow, or tile your bathroom yellow, or have your entire staircase fabricated in yellow…
