Merry Christmas

Posted on Sat, 24 Dec 2016 by midcenturyjo

I can’t believe another year has swept by and here we are again at Christmas Eve. We’ll be taking tomorrow off but we’ll be back on Monday with two weeks of our favourite rooms. It’s a chance to look back over the year and to see how our tastes or the trends have changed. Kim and I hope you all have a wonderful holiday full of family, friends and too much festive food. As for presents there’s really only one thing I want this year and every year after. I’ll let David Bowie and Bing Crosby explain…

Modern and moody in black, grey and brown

Posted on Fri, 23 Dec 2016 by KiM

I spotted this 1915, 400m2 home located outside Copenhagen on Bo Bedre and had to share because dark tones are EVERYTHING and this is how you do dark right. A Scandinavian modern vibe with moody tones of black, grey and brown, an eclectic mix of furnishings, and dark painted woodwork, this is pretty much my dream home. (Photos: Mads Mogensen)

Paris-based interior designer Adrien Pillay sent over some photos of one of his projects – the renovation (and decoration) of a tiny late 1800’s 365 sq ft apartment, and the transformation is incredible! (Photos: Anaëlle Le Roy). I love when we are sent before photos, and in this case it really showcases the amount of work involved in this project.

EEEEKKKK! But look at it now!! Simple, beautiful details and some great space-saving solutions.

I was so happy to see the ceiling medallion detail was maintained. Gorg!

I had to point out that the faucet folds down to allow access to the tiny stove. A genius design detail in this itty bitty kitchen!

A weekend home with ocean views

Posted on Thu, 22 Dec 2016 by KiM

With views like this who cares what the house looks like?! But when it’s as fabulous as this – BONUS! An interior landscape is created which merges into the surrounding external landscape. Materials and colours are drawn from the local environment and counterbalance the intense blue ocean hues. Natural timbers, local stone, textures tiles and muted stones are selected to mimic the surrounds. Selected paint and tile colours reflect the deep oranges and reds found in the local stone and local flora. The house is grand in scale, yet the spaces are relaxed yet sophisticated, modular and flexible. The balanced selection of imported and local furniture, lighting and materials celebrates the quality of local design within a global design environment. By FMD Architects.

A vintage industrial apartment by artKRAFT

Posted on Thu, 22 Dec 2016 by KiM

I have lots of love for all things vintage and industrial so I am crushing on this attic apartment in Budapest sent in by the lovely industrial design shop artKRAFT. The furnishings they brought in are pretty awesome, and add in the most amazing windows and herringbone hardwood and I am ALL OVER THIS. I would add some dark paint here and there and some really funky photographic art and VOILÀ! (Photos: FOTODEKO
