A simple beauty

It’s a little bit Scandi and a little bit Shaker. A little bit Arts and Crafts, a little bit country and definitely contemporary. You’d think that it might be a little bit confused but this renovation in Flinders, Victoria by Melbourne-based interior designers Austin Design Associates is stylish, welcoming and quite simply beautiful. (The kitchen is a dream!)

In my opinion, this is totally Arts and Crafts with an unfortunate paint job covering what was probably once gorgeous woodwork. I can see it so clearly in my mind, in its shining glory of dark woodwork and slightly yellowed paint, or maybe some William Morris wallpaper. Sigh.

This home is located in Melbourne – Australia, the timber was likely painted from day 1 in this house. It looks like it is what we call 'Federation style' the houses that were built around the time the country was federated in 1901. The features in the original part of the house – the windows, fireplaces, stone suggest this. Beautiful house.

This is a lovely mix. All of the different ceiling treatments give me hope that I can make some sense out of mine. And those bathroom tiles are gorgeous! Thanks for sharing.

With the exception of the mixed chairs in the kitchen (I prefer symmetry), this house is simply: beautiful, peaceful, inviting. When can I move in?
