Soho Loft

Posted on Thu, 15 Jun 2017 by midcenturyjo

The romance of a New York loft. Large open spaces, exposed brick, massive columns holding up equally massive beams and the windows, oh the windows! This Soho loft by Drew McGukin Interiors is an eclectic mix of urban chic, vintage finds, industrial riffs and personal treasures. It’s stylish yet relaxed and real.

In February a reader named Andrew sent over photos of his Devon Rex for Monday’s Pets on Furniture, and the other day he send along some photos to his newly renovated flat in Madrid. A huge congrats to him as it is an incredibly drastic transformation that turned out beautifully, and was recently featured in AD Spain. I have to start with a few before photos. It turns out it had been home to squatters for 20 years before Andrew got his hands it. It had no working bathroom, lowered ceilings, ruined floor and walls….it was pretty hideous.

And look at it now!!!!! (Photos: Lupe Clement)

Hideaway in the city

Posted on Wed, 14 Jun 2017 by midcenturyjo

I can’t help it. Even though it’s winter here I keep daydreaming about backyards and outdoor spaces. And if I owned a teeny tiny courtyard garden behind a terrace house in the inner city I couldn’t think of a better outdoor solution. Pool, a place to sit and soak up the sun, benches for friends to gather, perhaps a slightly bigger table for al fresco dining, a frangipani to grow up and give me shade in the summer and sun in the winter and the promise of a carpet of sweet smelling flowers at my feet. A private hideaway tucked above a garage in Sydney’s Paddington by Outdoor Establishments.
