Settling in for his long winter's nap😻💤. Can you blame him?.. PS– this view is right around the corner from yesterday's post and just proves that my taste is fickle and can't be categorized. One corner is slightly more traditional (fireplace view) and not 10 feet away is this eclectic space.. What can I say–I like what I like. 🤷🏻‍♀️………. #bohoismyjam #bohostyle #midcenturymodern #thisiswhyihavetothriftshopeveryday #designsponge #dsholiday #surfshack #bohodecor #bohemianstyle #theeverygirlathome #inmydomaine #mydomaine #eclecticdecor #houseplantclub #myplantlovinghome #lonnymag #dtipetsonfurniture #showemyourstyled #ehdweekendmakeover #istillaintmadatitamber #plantsmakepeoplehappy #myplantlovinghome #flashesofdelight #thehappynow #anthropologie #thepottedplant #caturday #caturdaymornings

You may or may not recall a couple of weeks ago I had a bit of a negative social media experience…Well, I've been meaning to follow up on this because it actually turned in to the most wonderful thing. I was incredibly touched and inspired by another persons humility in reaching out via email, and in turn I reassessed my own behaviour and how I dealt with the situation – and definitely learned a thing or two. This socialising digitally thing is really so new in the history of human communication (which quite frankly we're just not all that great at anyway) – we have to exercise caution, be open to learning, misinterpretation and unexpected audiences, and we have to trust in good intentions. It's complicated, it gets messy, humans are SO confusing but most of us are good, and fun, and nice, and isn't it cool that we get to hang out and chat about anything and everything? On Tuesday I'm meeting an insta pal from my birth city Sheffield, England – that's the other side of the world and we're going to have dinner coz we met through these little picture squares. Yay instagram!. For the times where I don't feel like being chatty you'll find me here telling Pebbles what a good tummy she has (such a good tummy)…. #pebblesthehyenapigdog #dtipetsonfurniture #theotherkemphouse #nzhomeswithstyle #midcenturyhome #thisiswhyihavetothriftshopeveryday #mycuratedaesthetic #finditstyleit #fearlesshome #apartmenttherapy #artprints #currentdesignsituation #eviekemp #pocketofmyhome #cornerofmyhome #myeclecticmix #interiordetails #allthingsmetric #moreismoredecor #myboldhues #societyofdesign #interiormilk #howyouhome #homedecor #jungalowstyle #sassyhomestyle #styleithappy #wallpaperstyle #bedroomdecor #dscolor

Crisp House

Posted on Mon, 18 Dec 2017 by midcenturyjo

The 1850s timber house from had seen better days, its original features long stripped away. “The new addition is concealed using the same form/angle/dimension of the existing cottage, but where that is clad in traditional horizontal timber weatherboards, the new addition is clad in vertical ironbark shiplap. The 2 timber species are further contrasted by their treatment – traditional painted finish for the cottage whereas the ironbark will be left to weather off and soften in appearance. “ Inside large sliding walls of glass let in the light and provide easy access to the outside while the materials palette is of plywood, oak, steel, bluestone, brass and cement. Modern living in a strict heritage preservation area. Crisp House in the Melbourne suburb of Collingwood by Robert Nichol & Sons.

Sunday dinner at a restaurant

Posted on Sun, 17 Dec 2017 by KiM

Before the craziness of the week proceeding Christmas begins, how about a night off to enjoy some spectacular design and cuisine! Le Coucou in New York City was designed by the incredibly talented duo of Roman and Williams. If you’re lucky you’ll spot Brad or Kanye 🙂
Roman and Williams have stripped away all of the years of renovations to expose the existing raw brick space. From the entry vestibule Roman and Williams have created a Dining Room that is a box-within-a-box, with sets of magnificent triple-hung glass windows that form a secondary façade within the space. At the room’s crown, a grand procession of pewtered-steel chandeliers designed by Roman and Williams hang from the exposed concrete of the existing ceiling, lighting the room with a glow from hand-blown glass shades. Custom cast-glass sconces partner the chandeliers from their posts on the walls, where existing brick has been thickly whitewashed carefully to reveal layers of historical paint, providing additional layer and texture. The borders of the room are further defined by a circuit of banquettes covered in hearty blue gray mohair, which pairs with Thonet armchairs circa 1925 that have been reinterpreted and covered in earthy olive green velvet upholstery.

Working on a Saturday

You must be sick of me saying it week after week but it still holds true. If you have to drag your sorry self into work on a weekend it better be somewhere stylish. Amen. Fjord Helsinki by Studio Joanna Laajisto.

Kaemingk Design

A big thanks to Chelsea Kaemingk for contacting us about the home renovation business she shares with her husband Brandt, Kaemingk Design. I really admire their timeless, classic and authentic aesthetic. Here is a bit of info from Chelsea and their blog: My husband and I are designers in Portland, OR and love to create homes with that handmade feeling. We love age, patina and imperfection which we usually pair with monochromatic color schemes and simplistic design. Whether the space is new or old their motto remains the same, to create spaces that become more beautiful as they age.
