A contemporary addition to a grand Victorian house is a moody, sleek and sophisticated cave. But before you think heavy and dark walls of glass draw your eyes to lush garden courtyard spaces while allowing light in. Malvern House by Melbourne-based architectural studio Figureground.

It’s minimum fuss and maximum fun in this stylish apartment in Paris’ 19th arrondissement. The renovation is a collaboration between Melbourne-based interior architecture practice Studio Wonder and Laurent Soler. Trés chic n’est ce pas?

I wanted to share another to-die-for project by London design firm 2LG Studio. A 5 bed Arts & Crafts home given our modern twist with contemporary craft and bespoke elements. It was love at first sight and we wanted to maintain the strong heritage of the architecture, whilst bringing it up to date with our new take. We created a bespoke colourway of our floral, handprinted, wallpaper (designed in collaboration with Custhom) and our hand knotted rug for FloorStory. Giving a through-line on the ground floor – our personal take on the nature inspired prints of William Morris. Much of the original oak panelling, doors and pillars is left lovingly exposed, with the rest of the home given a neutral base to let the artworks and antique pieces shine. The lighting in the hallway, and throughout in brass and black metal, has a leaf motif that is entirely appropriate for the Arts & Crafts movement, yet adds a modern wit.

A bespoke brass and oak dining table, commissioned by us from british design brand, Novocastrian, with contemporary chairs by Ercol, becomes the centrepiece of the home. 

The Liberty of London upholstery on the banquet seating giving another nod to the cultural heritage of the property. 

I am in love with this home – particularly the meticulously appointed kitchen (complete with 2 sinks!!). Here are some details: the alteration of and addition to an existing Victorian cottage in Darling Point, Sydney. An exploration of finding the contemporary and grand within what is historic and compact, we have deliberately detailed the space in such a way that the handmade appears both youthful and reverential.
