Pinch me because I must be dreaming! This space is beyond incredible. The scoop: During Milan Design Week 2019, Elisa Ossino and Josephine Akvama Hoffmeyer, creative directors and founders of H+O, revealed their multi-room apartment installation, Perfect Darkness. A new concept of home where tiles take centre stage of the project. Besides covering walls and floors tiles are featured in each room serving as structural and architectonic elements. Elisa Ossino Studio designed the interiors of the apartment. The choice of colors, in collaboration with File Under Pop, emphasises the vibration of light highlighting the sequence of environments in a continuous transition from darker to brighter spaces. The space is characterized by carefully selected furniture, objects and art pieces by international award-winning design studios who all share a passion for creativity and innovation: Artcoustic, Astep, Boffi, De Castelli, De-Tech, Dresswall, Fantini, File Under Pop, Formani, Frama, H+O, House of Finn Juhl, Menu, Nesite, Officine Saffi, Pitt Cooking, Salvatori, Stine Goya and Tubes.

A renovation of a duplex in a Brooklyn townhouse that went oh so very right. The architectural details in this home are spectacular. A renovation of a renovation. The lower duplex of a Clinton Hill townhouse was purchased somewhat half way renovated by a developer. The floor plan worked but it just wasn’t right. Plus light was lacking even on the gracious parlor floor. Some plan adjustments, window alterations and general cleaning up of misplaced casings and moldings made the difference. Together with a more neutral palette (imagine former blue walls) to offer a background for the varied art pieces from the client, the duplex transformed into a new form of its former elegance. As if my first post today didn’t have you scheming and dreaming of a way to move into a wonderful old farmhouse on Shelter Island then this post will tempt you even further. The renovation of this former fisherman’s cottage is also by SchappacherWhite Architects DPC. In fact it was the architects’ own home until they sold it (lucky new owners). The 1904 house underwent a sympathetic transformation creating a year round home just right for family and friends. The interiors feature natural materials and a neutral colour palette of whites and sands contrasted with black provides a perfect backdrop for a mix of modern, antique and found pieces.

It’s rustic yet sophisticated. It’s steeped in history yet modern. It’s an island house in a farmhouse. A modern extension to an early 1900s house on Shelter Island provided the space and level of luxury the owners desired while preserving the heart and soul of the old home. Think living room barn and bedroom in a shed, connecting glass walkways and a fabulous outdoor entertaining area. Shelter Island Farmhouse by SchappacherWhite Architects DPC.
