Old and new

“A sensitive adaptation by Brad Swartz Architects brings extra space and light into a 1861 heritage sandstone terrace without increasing its footprint. A sculptural steel staircase, sky-roof and glass walls work together to bring daylight through the core, and turn an unused attic into a contemporary take on the sunroom.”

Clean lined, contemporary living in Sydney’s historic heart. Darlinghurst House by Brad Swartz Architects.

Colour and pattern to the MAX!

Posted on Mon, 18 Apr 2022 by KiM

A couple of summers ago I featured a home designed by Cameron Ruppert and the post was titled ‘Maximalism with colour and pattern‘. It was bold and I was smitten. And then I saw this latest project by Cameron and my mind is BLOWN. I wish I could be this creative and ballsy with colour and pattern but it really takes a special talent and confidence to come up with combinations like this and it be THIS GOOD. Located in Provence, near the picturesque medieval town of Uzès, this remarkable historic château dates from the 13th century. This former property of the Baron de Castille was acquired in 1950 by the legendary British art historian and collector Douglas Cooper. He commissioned the famous Spanish cubist artist to paint five monumental frescoes in the castle, which were later classified as historic monuments along with other parts of the castle. Castille Castle offers over 560 m2 of living space, including 7 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms and over 180 m2 of reception rooms. The gardens and the 2 hectare park include a gallery, a pond, a caretaker’s house and outbuildings. The charming interior has been decorated by renowned interior designer Dick Dumas. In total, the property offers 2 hectares of magnificent parkland with formal gardens and avenues of majestic holm oaks leading to cenotaphs. Other notable features include historic outbuildings, a large pond, numerous historic stone ornaments and a gatehouse.
What an extraordinary property! For sale for 8,900,000 € via Sotheby’s.
