This remarkable hilltop dwelling seamlessly blends industrial charm with contemporary design. Three interconnecting pavilions sit atop a hillside in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. Think contemporary design meets industrial-style barns, open-plan spaces and precast concrete panels. Connecting the pavillions is an art gallery walk defining areas and connecting with the vast landscape. In such a rural area sustainability takes centre stage, featuring solar power, rainwater harvesting and fire safety measures. Tree Island defies limitations, transforming its compact-sized house into a unique family home. Measuring just four and a half meters wide, the home cleverly rises against a neighbouring warehouse conversion, maximizing vertical space. A central, light-filled void connects living areas and hosts a thriving fig tree. A courtyard and rear garden offer tranquillity and practicality, while a hidden roof terrace provides a private retreat. After some random searches I ended up finding this House & Garden article that was from 2001 featuring what was once the Provence farmhouse of Maxime de la Falaise and Sarah St George, and I had to share because ah mah gawddddd. This home has such a brightness, and lovely features such as the tilework throughout, lots of sunflower-yellow walls, large fireplace in the dining area, beautiful textiles in every room and WOW – the sitting room used to be a barn! I am absolutely in love with the stained glass marquise hung over the stove. Storing that one away in my inspiration folder (but as if I could find one in the wild). Photos: Tim Clinch.

Back in 2019 I featured the Camden apartment of Luke Edward Hall and Duncan Campbell that was a very colourful combination of mostly green and pink and I fell in love with it. A few years later and maybe a few iterations later, their apartment now has a whole new “Venice” vibe (though still with shades of green and pink). Lots of graphic wallpaper. dark textiles, faux marble, a bold red kitchen topped with a pediment and urns, a lush fabric-laden bedroom make this version of their apartment so much moodier and by far my favourite.
