I was so excited to learn recently that Apartment Therapy, one of the few blogs that has been around longer than ours, wanted to feature a tour of my home. A wonderful photographer, Craig Kellman, came by at the end of May to take photos and Adrienne Breaux did a lovely write-up. It is such an honour to have my home shared on such a prestigious blog, and the photos turned out so beautifully. And there’s even a couple of photos of me, which is rare, as well as my dearly departed best friend Mimin, who we had to say goodbye to on June 25. No, this isn’t some incredible château in France or Italy as per my typical Sunday content, it is my humble abode but I wanted to share this news and honour this home we will unfortunately soon be selling. Here is the link again to my house tour, with tons of more photos. I hope you like it 🙂

What an absolute treat!! I start every day with your blog and am loving getting a peek into your beautiful home. I have a resale/vintage shop in Ridgewood, New Jersey @Townhg – I am so inspired by every room:))
KiM says:
Thank you Michelle!!! XOXO

I love that your home has color and personality! And I love that you kept so many original details of the house! It looks like the kind of place where people would immediately feel comfortable. Thank you so much for sharing it!
KiM says:
Thank you so much!!! In my old age (LOL) I am so much more appreciative of history and original architecture.
Donna says:
Your personal style, as indicated by the beautiful and eclectic interiors of your home, is the reason I have loved, admired and appreciated Desire to Inspire for many years. Thanks!
KiM says:
Awwwww thank you so much Donna! And thank you for sticking with us!
Anke says:
Everything has so much depth, style and warmth, beautiful! And your hallway alone is an absolute treat. As is the kitchen. And the cosy sitting room. And… Thanks for sharing!
KiM says:
Thank you so much Anke! This house does seem to exude a lot of warmth which is so important given our long harsh winters.
Suzanne Melton says:
Kim! You can’t drop, “…this home we will unfortunately soon be selling” and leave!
I hope the reason is positive and you’ll be restoring/remodeling a new place soon!
KiM says:
Not positive but I sure hope the next place is going to be as fabulous as this one.
Suzanne Melton says:
Just coming back to say I actually read the Apartment Therapy text!
I am so sorry because I love everything you’ve done inside and outside. If your house is now a tear-down, I hope you keep as much as possible for your next home (catio, the art deco lighting, the stained/leaded glass, etc.).
By the way, you’re down to only THREE cats?!
KiM says:
What happens with this house will depend on who buys it (regular buyer or a developer).
And sadly from Aug 24 2020 to June 25 2024 we have had to say goodbye to our entire geriatric crew of 5. The house is sooooo empty and feels soooo strange and we will never get used to it. We miss the chaos and the snuggles and the drama so very much 🙁
Suzanne Melton says:
…and I will miss the “walking to work” adoptions!
KiM says:
Oh lord the amount of cats I rescued/rehomed/took in over the years thanks to those walks….
Lynn says:
Thank you for showing us your beautiful home and personality. It’s a great treat.
KiM says:
Thank you Lynn!
RL says:
This was the most fun!
I am sorry you want to leave.
Cities and their neighborhoods everywhere seem to be changing. And I don’t like the direction they are going in.
I wonder if you feel the same way?
KiM says:
Thank you 🙂 And yes I do feel the same way. It’s very sad that history is being destroyed without a second thought and what is being put in its place lacks any creativity nor will it have any value in 30 or 50 years.
axie says:
Oh Kim, I’ve loved following the evolution of your home, and appreciate the work and thought you put into it. Even though I’m a minimalist with maximalist taste 🙂 , I love the warmth you put into every detail. I’ve loved watching you carry your styling out into the back yard, I’ve used so many of your ideas, thank you!
I just read the Apt Therapy article (congrats on that!) and am so sorry to hear about your leaving. My son is an architectural preservationist and has to deal with a lot of this same crap. It’s heartbreaking.
It’s never easy to leave a house that has become a home, (especially for your reason) but here’s hoping after mourning and moving, you let the positive wash over you- you’ll need it to tackle the next big project!
axie says:
oh no! I just read the comments and saw the news about the kitties- I am so sorry Kim, now you got me crying..
KiM says:
🙁 it’s been a really horrible 4 years are our home has felt more and more like a stranger’s home as we lost cats one by one. Mimin leaving last month….i still cannot believe she’s gone and the rest of her crew. This house (and any after) will never ever be the same 🙁
axie says:
Biggest of hugs to you and your husband, Kim
KiM says:
Thank you so much for the kind words. We think it’s about time to move on anyway and maybe have more space (outside) to do all the things we keep imagining.
