Reader request – closets

Posted on Thu, 20 May 2010 by KiM

We recently received this request from reader Judy: “Hi! I’m moving into a new space with my boyfriend after the summer. We realized that the closet space was going to be an interesting dilemma to solve – and was hoping you could post some inspiring photos of other people’s tasteful yet non-boring closet sharing solutions!“. Now, this request was a bit tough as I don’t have many closet photos in my stash, and then many are not exactly in keeping with this request but I figured I’d post whatever I could find as I am going through the exact same scenario at my house. Jeff is moving in this weekend and I have got to get the damn dressing room finished in time for both of us to be able to fit all of our clothes. Luckily I have a tiny bedroom (12′ x 7′) that is basically useless for any other purpose but to be a closet. The plan is to hang 2 rods on one end of the room and wall to wall shelves on the other. I’ll buy some baskets for socks and unmentionables, and the rest can be folded or hung. But enough about my space – here are some closets I found that may or may not be useful non-boring solutions for Judy’s new space. (The first one is my all-time favourite, and I’ve used it a few times already on the blog but I can’t help it. It’s perfect.)

Vicente Wolf, again

Posted on Wed, 19 May 2010 by KiM

Vicente Wolf, designer extraordinaire, is a huge favourite of ours and we were fortunate to have his new PR person contact us to see if we wanted some photos for another post. Hard to pass up a request like that – I could use some dreamy photos of beautifully and perfectly executed spaces to brighten my day….neutral spaces done soooooo right that exude sophistication.

Stargo encore

Isabelle Sjövall, the founder and president of Stockholm architecture and interior design firm Stargo, thought we might like to see some more beautiful photos of work they’ve completed. How could we pass that up? When I blogged about this firm back in 2007 I found all sorts of gorgeous spaces mostly decorated in black and white (LOVE!). These latest photos feature lots of creams and whites and some stunning wood paneling. (Thanks Isabelle!)

Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 17 May 2010 by KiM

If you’d like to send us photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow our basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. (Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture…and your pet happens to be sitting on it). And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos, your name and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim[@]hotmail[.]com and PLEASE don’t send me closeups of your pet!)

This is our 10 year little chihuahua cross Romey that we rescued from a puppy mill 8 years ago, they used him as a stud to make more little dogs. His name was Romeo when we first brought him home how unfortunately appropriate. He’s one handsome little guy snoozing on his favourite spot.

This is my Weimaraner, Lincoln on the couch in our living room.  He’s not really supposed to be up there, but he loves watching traffic go by.  And how can I resist that face and those ears!

Meu nome é Magda e moro em Ribeirão Preto. Aí vai uma foto de um cantinho da minha sala com minha gatinha Bella, de 8 meses. Ela adora ser fotografada.

Attached is a photo of my dear rescue dog, Harry!! He’s a 3 1/2 year old Jack Russel terrier. He’s sitting on a vintage chair from a thrift store, painted black and upholstered with Schumacher’s Gainsborough Velvet.

Here’s a pic of Bianca resting on our couch!!

This is my 2 years old French bulldog Iggy (in tribute to Iggy Pop) with his old friend the giant sea-turtle : he hesitates between Eames and Stark chair.

Gertrude is a smaller-than-average English Bulldog with an underbite, a best friend named Lois, and a distinctive snort. Her hobbies include watching HGTV, having her belly rubbed, and riding in the car. Gertie does not know any tricks, but she loves to make people laugh and eat lots of cookies.

Meet Lola, my 4 month old Ragdoll kitten. When she’s not following me from room to room like a second shadow, she likes to jump up from my Barcelona chair onto this mirrored table to get a really good look outside.
– Margaret (Toronto)

I’ve attached one of my favorites of our cat Otis. This picture is totally him, arrogant and royal. Pain in the ass. It was taken on our front porch, his favorite place to sun, but only May through September because we live in Fargo, ND.  The rest of the year it’s too cold for his royalness.

Our cat, Stig, loves small spaces for curling up – trays, tables… Smaller the better.

This is Nala on her favorite piece of furniture, a lazy day in the sun!

I just love the Pets on Furniture posts — my two beagles just love furniture – they think the floor is for the dogs! The first picture is at my parents house where the two are often found bunking on a purple overstuffed chair. The bottom dog, Oscar, hates having his picture taken. However, I was able to capture Oscar lounging on an ugly (rental home) but comfy sofa (second picture). They make my days joyful and help me to stop and sniff the roses, and grass, and whatever else is around.”

This is Kophr (pronounced “Copper”), my sister’s beagle, on my estate-sale-find chair that he loves jumping up on to peer out the front room window.  He also jumped up when he wanted to show my two big dogs that he, in fact, had the high ground. 😉

Hi, my name is Sandra and this is my dog Masha. Masha is a mixed-breed dog, and we are from Belgrade in Serbia.

Here is my french poodle pup Rishi. Somehow he has come to the conclusion that our Pier 1 Daybed belongs to him and him only. So the result is this.
