Happy Friday!!

The weekend is here! I am off work today and plan to do not much of anything. I went to visit a Flickr friend‘s home and AMAZING garden this morning (photos will be posted shortly on my Flickr) and she has totally inspired me to one day create an oasis for myself in my backyard. I’ve been battling the inside of my home since I moved in and haven’t spent much time on gardening (which is ok since it has rained almost every day this summer). I hope to get to it next year. And speaking of inspiration, whenever I need decor inspiration, I can always count on the lovely photos over at Sköna hem to do it for me. Here are some of my recent favourites.

A blog I have to share

Posted on Thu, 13 Aug 2009 by KiM

Several months ago my twin sister started a blog called the boo and the boy, and I get so much amusement out of it I had to share it with you all. Julia has 2 kids, Simon who is 9.5 months, and Isabella who is 3 (she is VERY smart…she must get that from her Zia Kim (LOL!!)). Julia also has a memory as terrible as mine so she started her blog mostly to document the hilarious and unbelievable things that come out of Isabella’s mouth (and in no time it will document Simon’s as well). She also posts photos of children’s rooms, so there’s some room porn in there to get you going. I think alot of people out there – with or without kids – will get a kick out of her blog. I visit it every morning because the stories are a great way to start a boring day at the office.

Since every post needs a photo, here’s one I took of the cutie patooties on Isabella’s 3rd birthday.

P.S. I put up a link to Julia’s blog in our sidebar a couple of months ago, so thanks to those who noticed and have been visiting!

Turnbull Griffin Haesloop Architects

The San Francisco based architecture and interior design firm of Turnbull Griffin Haesloop is renowned for sustainable, site-sensitive design. “We believe architecture is primarily concerned with establishing a ‘sense of place’, inspired by the uniqueness of each site and each client. Since the concept for each of our buildings is rooted in its environment, we are particularly attentive to topography, microclimate, vegetation and solar orientation.” I could just stare at their portfolio all day, and dream about each of these magical spaces.

Magnus Anesund

I am completely head-over-heels in love with the work of photographer Magnus Anesund. Fan-freaking-tastic!! the first two photos are my favourites. That kitchen with all the open shelving is so bright and inviting, and that island with built-in doggie bed is brilliant!

More pets on furniture

Posted on Tue, 11 Aug 2009 by KiM

For a while now, Jo and I have occasionally done posts of pets on furniture. We thought they made cute add-on posts to our regularly scheduled programming here at DTI, and we plan to continue with them for as long as our readers keep sending in photos. This blog stems from our passion for interior design, but we also have a pretty serious love for animals (Jo has budgies and a golden lab – her husband’s guide dog, and I have 6 cats plus feed 6 stray/neighbour’s cats). I wanted to give a bit of an explanation for all you newcomers to the blog so you see where we’re coming from with these somewhat random posts. We thought we’d tie it into the theme of the blog by requesting the photos feature a bit of readers’ homes as well. So there you have it – now back to the post.

First off, Ryan, of this blog and this Etsy store. “I am very involved with dog rescue, and somehow I have ended up with many more dogs than I ever intended to have. While my photo isn’t the greatest quality, I wanted to pass it along anyway. Especially since I don’t think you guys have ever featured a photo of this many dogs at once! And just because I like to brag about my fur-kids, two of them are registered Delta Society Pet Partners and they visit nursing homes and hospitals with me to bring a little puppy love into others’ lives.” Ryan, you may be right about this being the most dogs in one photo! They are all adorable and I commend you for rescuing so many and having 2 of them spreading the love to those who could use some lovin’.

Sandra, whose dining room makeover we’ve featured, sent along some photos of her cats Lulu and Schmoo (who loves tomatoes – seriously???). Cutie patooties!!

And lastly, I thought I’d share a photo I took of my cat Lucky (and Milo) sleeping flat on his back on one of the sections of my sofa that I keep under the window for the cats to perch on. In this photo he is fast asleep and, as someone on Flickr put it, “airing out his boy bits”.
