Reader’s home – Nicole’s renovations have begun

In December 2010, Nicole Lamac found her “forever home” in Victoria, BC. She’s been documenting the process over on her blog The House Diaires, and recently featured her laundry/mudroom and main floor bathroom renovations. They are FAB-U-LOUS!!!! Let me show you….
The bathroom was a peach nightmare, and had a terrible layout. They started from scratch with the plumbing so were able to redesign the space.
Oh YEAH
Herringbone carrera and white subway tiles…how could you go wrong with that?!?!
That was pretty freaking fabulous. Now check out Nicole’s laundry/mudroom. It started out as a 12′ x 10′ bedroom on the main floor.
And turned into this…
A window was switched out for a door. The floor is covered in 20″x20″ semi-polished porcelain with a look similar to polished concrete, and it’s heated. In the freaking mudroom. BOOM.
How about this cute little corner for jacket/shoe/mitten storage? Love it.
I can’t wait to see what she does with the rest of her house!

Simonsen and Czechura again. This time the renovation of a rustic house in Vence on the French Riviera. Open up a number of small rooms, let in the light and install a killer kitchen and bathroom. Modern Danish minimalism with Mediterranean panache.

Mark TuckeyThere may be light at the end of my bathroom renovation tunnel. The funds are gathered and a builder might just have been found. No firm plans drawn up but we have a builder! Is that putting the horse before the cart? And I have more inspiration pictures. Maybe that’s why no firm plans.
All with a tradition vibe. Then I get the urge to break out with something more modern, with colour, with tile.

The wish list is still growing. Heated towel rails, a free standing tub probably a claw foot (wasn’t this supposed to be a shower room originally?), Kelvin wants waterfall taps and I want a wall of storage. No wonder the plans keep changing 😉
Bathroom ideas

Do you find you collect more and more inspiration photos the more you are delayed in your renovation plans? I certainly do! As most of you will know I live in an 1860’s brick colonial but most of you will not know that our only bathroom is way down the back of the house in the old stables. Oh the foibles of an old house, old plumbing and old renovations completed half way through the 20th century when expediency and low cost were the words of choice for bathroom renovations. What I would really really love for our new upstairs bathroom is something just like these amazing bathrooms by Australian interior designer Justine Hugh-Jones.

My new bathroom plans are gathering momentum. I find myself still gathering images in my inspiration file. Can’t stop. Bath or shower or both? Double sinks for the morning rush? Tiled to the ceiling or a softer look with lots of the old walls on show? Heated flooring or lovely old boards?
