Modern Bahamas Style

Take me away to a life in the Caribbean. To a holiday house that puts a smile on my face. Holiday house? Hell no I’d want to live there all year round. I’m loving this home on the Abacos in The Bahamas by Denton House Design Studio. Calm waters, warm breezes and water views forever and a fabulous fun house.

“Bold colored fabrics and finishes used in this island styled Baker’s Bay vacation home in the Bahamas made the perfect place to getaway. With deep stained wood floors and beach inspired prints, the design echoes the lush landscape outside. Our clients loved bright and bold so we really went for it in their space. Using white as a backdrop to all the color was the key to keeping this sophisticated, yet fun.”

A California beach house with a modern edge

Last month I featured an edgy loft by interior designer Lukas Machnik and thought I would share another of his projects. This time the scene is quite different. A house on the beach in California is given a modern yet earthy with lots of creams, wood and black accents. Some mid-century modern classics are a reminder that this isn’t your average beach house. My favourite elements are the dining table and benches that he designed. Gorgeous!!

A 1910 beach house in California

Here is another example of why I am such a fan of Reath Design‘s style. Frances Merrill took another Craftsman (this time a 1910 beach house) and brought home the funk! More fun wallpaper, tile, patterned fabric and vintage finds make this home soooo much fun and a total eye candy. If you ever thought about painting your old kitchen cabinets yellow, this should sell you on the idea.

Sensual by the sea

This timeless beach house in Alys Beach, Florida by Starr Sanford Design is the stuff of dreams. White on white, modern yet with a hint of Caribbean Colonial, relaxed and sophisticated. If you stop by to visit you’ll find me on the roof terrace drink in hand with not a care in the world. Beach side bliss.

Black and white

White is crisp and bright. It highlights and enhances. It expands. Black adds drama. It’s an anchor, a base note in the music of a room. It frames. Together they breathe new life into a tired space, giving rooms an easy sophistication, cool and relaxed. I’m still on my un-Hamptons Hamptons kick although I must admit this home by Manhattan-based design studio BHDM Design is on the North Fork not the South Fork of Long Island. Technicalities kids. This is how you do beach side chic!
