Blue and white beachside

Posted on Tue, 6 Dec 2016 by midcenturyjo

There’s something so fresh about a blue and white interior and I love this modern take on a classic look in this Newport Beach renovation by Jeff Trotter Design. From bobbin chairs to Burmese rain drum side tables, from beadboard to blue and white ikat cushions it’s the perfect coastal look for those who like their beachside classic not cliché.

Just because it’s a family home doesn’t mean you can’t have those extra touches, the luxe finishes, the custom cabinetry, the well considered design. Sydney- based multi-disciplinary design studio The Designory gets it just right with this Bronte house. Love the open plan living, the fabulous kitchen, the rumpus room opening to the garden but most of all it’s about the details for me. Did you notice the shoe storage under the custom wardrobes?

In the dunes

Posted on Thu, 10 Nov 2016 by midcenturyjo

It must be the scorching hot days that are plaguing my part of the world that has me obsessing over beach houses. Normally I’d be happy with a simple shack with a view and a breeze. That is until I see something just a bit more special.

On a rolling site overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, this beach house brings together two contrasting ideas – nineteenth century Shingle Style design, and a contemporary preference for material and textural expression over architectural detail. While the exterior captures the local design aesthetic, the interior treats light, space and surface in a distinctly modern fashion.

Seaside sandstone

It sits solidly on the site like the sandstone outcrops which are a feature of the Sydney landscape. This substantial family home at Palm Beach by Bentley Design is evocative of beach side living but not in the sense of driftwood and sea foam, more stone against the wind and spray. Beautiful position, beautiful home to suit.

PLEASE! Please I beg someone with bucket loads of money and bucket loads of good sense, buy this Palm Beach time capsule of a house with a view that is just ridiculous and restore it to its tiki bar, cruise ship, cocktails on the deck former glory. Don’t knock it down and build a McMansion on steroids. PLEASE? For sale here while it lasts. (The drone video is stunning.)
