Onetangi Beach House

Posted on Wed, 17 Aug 2016 by midcenturyjo

There’s something subliminal going on with my posts so far this week. Beach houses and holiday rental accommodation, accommodation and houses by the sea. Perhaps I need some time off? A holiday in a beach house? Or perhaps it’s just where the interwebs have taken me this week. Like this beautiful home at Onetangi Beach by New Zealand design firm Sumich Chaplin Architects. Open the doors and drink in that view.

Cape Cod dreaming

Posted on Tue, 16 Aug 2016 by midcenturyjo

For all those mid century aficionados out there sometimes a dream can come true. You may never get to own a classic 60s beach shack on Cape Cod but you can rent it for a week. Hatch Cottage, an experimental house designed by Jack Hall. An almost untouched time capsule with panoramic water views and modernist simplicity. (Perhaps some of the photos could have been styled better but that’s a minor quibble if you have a major crush on modernism.) Via The Modern House.

A retro beach house in Malibu

Posted on Tue, 9 Aug 2016 by KiM

You may be able to get away with anything in Malibu, but what this home lacks for in typical Malibu OTT style or modern to the extreme is made up for in retrolicious funk. I would prefer this any day, anywhere. The Archers making spaces deliciously good once again.

Beach cottage chic

I just love Cortney Bishop and her creative, eclectic, edgy style. We have featured several of her projects and each time I gasp in delight. Yes, YES, YAAASSSS!!! This beach cottage is another stunner. Bright white walls and ceiling to create a simple, bright backdrop to funky furnishings and graphic patterned curtains and pillows. The art in the living room could not be more perfect in this setting. What a fantastic little cottage!

Beach side dream

Posted on Wed, 3 Aug 2016 by midcenturyjo

I can almost hear the waves lapping at the shore, almost feel the breeze pushing through the screened porch. It’s as if the late afternoon sun warms me as I snuggle into the sofa and I know that I could not pass that console table without flipping through the old photos. This beautiful home is almost the perfect beach side dream. The only thing that could make it better is if I was actually there. By Birmingham, Alabama based interior designer Tammy Connor.
