Old and new

Posted on Fri, 11 Oct 2019 by midcenturyjo

I love the mix of old and new, of antique with mid century classic, heavy Victorian mahogany furniture with Scandinavian influences, all wrapped up in a neutral colour palette with metallic accents. This bedroom, by Melbourne-based Sisällä, was part of Como By Design, a show house in a heritage listed South Yarra mansion (hence all changes had to be non invasive and reversible). My friends will tell you I have been going on and on for a couple of years now about “bringing back the brown”, of embracing the heavy dark wooden antique pieces we have been shunning for years. They laughed at me years ago when I told them the next big thing would be the 80s and they’re not laughing now. With  Sisällä showing the way perhaps they’ll all be clamouring for a big old brown wardrobe soon.

A little bit of California in London

Posted on Wed, 9 Oct 2019 by midcenturyjo

The owners missed Los Angeles so interior designers Maria Lindgren & Adele Lonergan of Covet & Noir created a little bit of California for them in this London home. A clever mix of new and vintage furniture, art and accessories it is full of light with a neutral yet warm palette. Monochrome has never popped so much.

A dream in green

“The Beldi is a converted loft space in the heart of Shoreditch, east London, overlooking St Leonard’s Church and its surrounding treetops. The light and open plan of the space reflects its history as a shoe factory, and the patterned use of handmade Beldi tiles is used to delineate the space within. Simplicity and craft come together in this verdant volume, forming an oasis from the urban jungle below.”

Coast

A salty tang is in the air and the rhythmic crash of waves provide the sound track. Interiors are light and bright with blonde wood furniture, a washed out colour palette of whites and sands with accents of black. The look is relaxed  but sophisticated with an emphasis on natural textures. It’s summer at the beach in Australia. It’s Noosa style by CLO Studios.

A holiday house in Menorca

Posted on Fri, 27 Sep 2019 by midcenturyjo

What a week! I need a break. Unfortunately I can’t escape the real world so it will have to be a virtual getaway. Today’s daydream is bought to you by Atelier du Pont whose transformation of this holiday house in Menorca, Spain ticks all my boxes. I can feel the stress melting away already.
