Open clothes storage

Posted on Thu, 21 Jan 2010 by KiM

We’ve gotten several emails lately from readers asking for us to post photos to help inspire on all sorts of subjects and I thought I’d take a stab at one of them today. We received this email from Harpa: “I was wondering if you have any pictures showing an open closet or some clothing rails in a bedroom? I’ll be redoing my bedroom soon (when my littlest one gets his own room) and I want to have a small rail out in the open for some of my nicer clothes, or to organise my work clothes for the week. Some inspirational pictures would be very helpful 🙂” To my surprise I had a hard time finding photos in my stash for this one but I was intrigued to find some because I hope to redo my dressing room in the near future (how long have I been saying that? LOL) and my father is trying to convince me to have everything exposed (except maybe a bin or drawers for unmentionables). I’ve included some photos that feature something other than bars or open closets to give some other ideas for exposing clothing as well (ie. round rack, hooks, cute armoire whose doors could be removed).

Emily’s bedroom dilemma

Posted on Tue, 5 Jan 2010 by KiM

I mentionned in my post on Christmas Eve that Emily was looking for some help with her bedroom but that things were too nuts at the time for me to go through my vast photo stash. Well, things are slightly less nuts now so I thought I’d finally help her out. Here’s what she wrote us: “Here’s my dilemma…my bedroom is set up where the best place for the bed is in front of a window. The window is about the exact width of the bed. I would really like to have a headboard on my bed and drapes on the window, but I’m having trouble figuring out the best way to do that. I need ideas!! Could you possibly post a group of shots showcasing beds with headboards in front of windows?” I found quite a few images that should help provide a bit of inspiration. Personally I think headboards are overrated, especially in the case when the bed sits in front of a window which acts as a headboard. I think hanging flowy drapes and hooking them on each side frames a bed-in-a-window quite nicely and omits the need for a headboard. But that’s just me. Or do nothing but stick your bed in place. As you’ll see below, that works too.

A bedroom perfect for spring/summer

Posted on Mon, 27 Apr 2009 by KiM

Pethra of the Swedish design blog Design & Inredningsbloggen, wanted to share with us a bedroom she styled for her mom. It’s sooooo pretty, with lots of white and pink accents (my favourite!). In my opinion this is a perfect bedroom to bring in this new season. Lovely Pethra! (see more photos here)

Kim’s long weekend

Posted on Tue, 14 Apr 2009 by KiM

This is the last day of my Easter weekend (5 days!) and it was fix-up-my-bedroom weekend. Plaster, sand, wait for it to dry, plaster, sand, wait for it to dry…..still waiting…..to hell with it, paint, paint, paint. This went on for 3.5 straight days. I was too impatient to do a great job but it was good enough. You can hardly tell there used to be a closet in my bedroom. Mission accomplished.

Here’s a quick glimpse (as I showed you all the other day) of the former room, looking at the mess that used to be the closet (and what a b*tch that was to patch):

I went with a very pale pink on the walls, which turns out to be hard to photograph accurately. I chose BM’s Elephant Pink at 25% strength, and BM’s Snowfall White for the trim and the floors. I need to give the floor a few days to cure so in the meantime I am sleeping on my DIY couch. Turns out painting laminate floors works quite well. (I plan on replacing all that cheap laminate with hardwood eventually). This morning I put out a few items I hope to use in the new bedroom, to give you an idea of where I’m going with this project. Vintage boho I’ll call it – which means I get to reuse alot of junk I already have as I am still trying to pay off my kitchen and funds are reeeeeally low.

Hopefully next weekend I’ll be able to move some furniture in there and get out to Ikea to get the rest of what I need (new headboard-less/footboard-less bed frame and bookcases). More photos to come after that happens.
