Non-Hamptons Hamptons

Posted on Mon, 2 Apr 2018 by midcenturyjo

Not a skerrick of blue and white. Yes it references old barns. Yes there are hydrangeas in tubs and a swimming pool in a sea of manicured grass but no blue and white tchotchkes and upholstery fabrics, no white painted furniture, no nautical themes, stripes  or shells. How refreshing! Hamptons home by Hancock Design.

Stalking a TV producer’s warehouse

I’m in the Sydney suburb of Annandale stalking the warehouse home of Julian Cress, Executive Producer of the Australian reality renovation show The Block. Originally his artist father’s studio, Cress and his family have transformed the vast shell into a modern home while retaining its industrial roots. Price guide is $4 million AUD so the vast majority of us will never be able to afford it but we can dream. Link here while it lasts.

Black and white drama

I love the theatre of a great entrance. It’s all about setting the scene for your visitors. “Welcome. Welcome. Come into my world.” And there’s nothing better than the drama of a black and white palette like this foyer and staircase by design studio Alison Rose New York. Simple yet luxurious, it’s a vibrant mix of black and white, old and new.

Cosmopolitan Condo

Award winning Los Angeles based Black Lacquer Design say they have a a penchant for all things pretty. Perhaps we better add edgy, fresh and fun. And their name? It might just have something to do with the belief that almost every room can benefit from a bit of black and a little lacquer. I just didn’t expect it on the ceiling and I must say I’m a convert!

Brazilian drama

It’s dramatic. It’s stylish. It’s edgy and it’s the show home (or should I say apartment) by Studio ro+ca for CasaCor Rio 2017, the largest and most complete exhibition of architecture, interior design and landscaping in the Americas showcasing the best of the best. All I can say is ouch! Brazilian design is so hot.
