Sarah Lavoine encore

Posted on Wed, 17 Oct 2012 by KiM

Here is another breathtaking project designed by interior designer Sarah Lavoine. It is pretty obvious that this Parisian apartment is the home of an art collector. Most people who design spaces for art collectors leave the walls white. NOT SARAH! She used teal, bright yellow and black – all perfectly suited for the spaces and the artwork they hold. Jaw-dropping results once again.

Lázaro Rosa-Violán encore

More from Spanish design dynamo Lázaro Rosa-Violán. Commercial interiors that translate across to a domestic application. Hotel style bedroom? Yes please if the hotel is the Hotel Praktik Rambla seen here in the first few photos. I never realised that Lázaro was responsible for the image that I have front and centre of my inspiration folder. Hotel Pulitzer Roma is a knockout with its chic contemporary design married with original 70s pieces. Photo 6 is the bedroom I would lay my head for all eternity. Big call but true. Take the time to explore the detail of Señor Rosa-Violán’s portfolio. Inspiration in every detail.

Hearth and home. Sense of place and purpose and history. Homes to anchor a well lived life. Tradition and quiet modernism. Genius loci, respect for the past, reach for the future but gently, solidly, purposefully and creatively. Inspiration from Austin, Texas based Tim Cuppett Architects.

An Icelandic beauty

Posted on Wed, 3 Oct 2012 by KiM

I am so stoked to have devoured the latest issue of Home & Delicious, created by Iceland’s powerhouse couple Gunnar Sverrisson (a photographer) and Halla Bára Gestsdóttir (a designer). I featured a couple of homes from their first issue here and here and I can’t wait to show you one from issue #2 (there are so many incredible homes featured I had a hard time deciding one one to blog). Magical photos and beautiful spaces, as I have come to expect from my new favourite online shelter magazine. This home is a 36 m2 cabin on a lake, build in the 70’s and moved from it’s original to current location in the 90’s, then extended and electricity added. The predominantly white/black/blue colour scheme and casual vibe is perfect for the rugged surroundings.

47 Park Avenue update

Posted on Sun, 16 Sep 2012 by KiM

I have about 10 minutes slotted do get a post done for today. I spent the day yesterday helping my sister and her husband close up the cottage (BOO HOO!) as fall has suddenly arrived (30°C drop in temperature in 3 days) and today I am going to check out the Glebe House Tour in between chores and blogging (I heard yesterday from the owners of this house that their master bathroom was done on Friday – can’t wait to see it!). Without any real plans for today’s post, I immediately thought of 47 Park Avenue, one of my favourite blogs. I featured Michael and Jonathan’s blog and home back in March, and I always look forward to updates on their latest finds (they are masters at finding the coolest vintage pieces) and how they are incorporated into their gorgeous home. So without further ado, I give you some of the latest photos of their inspiring home.
