Modern in the woods

Posted on Thu, 10 Mar 2022 by midcenturyjo

Jamie Ivey of Richmond, Virginia based interior designers Ivey Design Group has taken a neutral new build (albeit with huge windows taking in the expansive views of woodlands and pond) and created a colourful and welcoming contemporary home. Crisp white walls allow pops of colour to delight and draw you into rooms while layering of textures warms what could have been a cold modern house. Think sophisticated yet family friendly, unique and definitely not boring.

A romantic San Francisco townhouse

Posted on Thu, 10 Mar 2022 by midcenturyjo

“This romantic San Francisco town house, bathed in pale pinks and gossamer blues, belongs to an adventurous couple who live not far outside the city. Based on conversations with them, the fanciful conceit for our design was that this is a place where the husband comes to visit his wife in her private lair. As such, the décor falls decidedly on the feminine side. Vive la difference, vive l’amour!”

Softest hues, gossamer curtains filtering the light, cosy seating. Calm, uncluttered and carefully considered. Filbert by Studio Shamshiri.

Fabulous fun in Beverly Hills

Posted on Thu, 24 Feb 2022 by midcenturyjo

I’ll let the designer describe the approach to this fabulous Beverly Hills home.

“For this archetypal 1920s Spanish-style house in Beverly Hills, we conjured a relaxed, youthful atmosphere in opposition to the formality of many nearby homes. Painting the living room’s beamed ceiling white significantly altered the space’s complexion, providing a luminous backdrop for texture-rich furnishings. A low-slung yellow velvet Mario Bellini sofa sits on a Moroccan carpet laid wall to wall, while a built-in banquette boasts multicolored Majorcan ikats. The kitchen’s wallpaper is by artist Alviro Barrington — part of a collection of contemporary art with works by Laura Owens, Tracey Emin, Richard Prince, and Josh Smith. The result: an unpretentious environment in sync with the rhythms and rituals of contemporary life.”

Light-filled, colourful and downright fun. Beverly by Billy Cotton.

A lakeside family retreat

Posted on Fri, 11 Feb 2022 by KiM

How much fun would it be to have a retreat like this to escape to in the summer months? Or winter for that matter. I love the mix of contemporary and rustic cabin of the interior and each space is whimsical and lounge-y. Located on Lake Sunapee in New Hampshire and designed by Kate Maloney.

Jewel renovation

Posted on Wed, 2 Feb 2022 by midcenturyjo

“A 20 year old builder-grade home, that required a facelift to fit the new owners’ personalities and incredible, European inspired taste. Custom cabinetry, unique lighting and textural materials play in perfect harmony with one another, to make this renovation a success!”

The kitchen is inspiring, the laundry clever and colourful but my heart belongs to the little jewel box of a bar/butler’s pantry. No, more of a bar in brilliant deep blue. Willows Residence by Indianapolis-based Whittney Parkinson Design
