Castello di Castelcorniglio in Parma, Italy

Posted on Sun, 16 Oct 2022 by KiM

On the hills of the beautiful Parma pre-Apennines, the Castelcorniglio estate offers an insight into the ancient peasant life of rural Italy that is now actually disappearing. In the 570 hectares of wooded hills that represent the property, crossed by a river and with a lake of about 3000 sqm, an old rural village, including thirty traditional stone farmhouses scattered on the hills, takes us back in time, to a reality made a life focused on the cultivation of fields and the care of animals. The oldest news of this place dates back to 1226, when the small and romantic castle that dominates the property, inhabited until a few years ago, was mentioned as one of the most ancient Statutes of Parma. The frames of the walls and the towers crowned by Ghibelline merlons, preserve an ancient history that, from family to family, goes up to the present day. The estate, which is now used as a large hunting reserve, is covered with thick woods and meadows where groups of wild horses make us enjoy the still unspoiled nature of this magical place.
10 bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, 3,50o sq m of magnificent Italian history. What a beauty. For sale via Sotheby’s.

A manor house for sale in Girona, Spain

Posted on Sun, 9 Oct 2022 by KiM

In a highly privileged location on a pedestrian street in Girona’s romantic old town, we find this exceptional property for sale. It is a magnificent historic manor house with a built size of 1,140 m² and an idyllic walled garden of 409 m² with a beautiful portico. Having such a large garden is very rare at the heart of the city. The property is brimming with original period features, such as beautiful coloured mosaic floor tiles, large balcony windows and impressive high ceilings, as the interiors have been almost untouched for nearly a century. The house currently has 8 bedrooms and 5 offices, therefore there is space for at least 13 bedrooms, making it ideal for conversion into a luxury boutique hotel or into separate spacious apartments with a communal garden. There is also an attic of 135 m² with the potential to raise the roof height and convert it into a penthouse apartment with an amazing terrace of over 100 m² with lovely views across the old town rooftops.
The potential of this home knows no bounds. It’s such a shame the current owners have done nothing to enhance its beauty. For sale for €2,500,000 via Lucas Fox.

In the small town of O Porirño, Pontevedra, we find this unique property dating back to early 1901, finished in great detail by the Galician architect Jenaro de la Fuente Dominguez. One inside Villa Florida, the mansion offers historical artistry. There are 2 levels of space, high ceilings measuring almost 5 metres high and historic mosaic tile flooring, stonework and carpentry. We have the living area on the main floor, with a grand dining room leading to the back garden, the sitting lounge, the living room, a large kitchen, a study/library, and the grand stairway to the first floor. On the first floor, we find the sleeping area. There are 5 bedrooms, 2 shared bathrooms, a dressing and ironing room and a large exterior terrace. On the rear side of the building, there is an extensive green area in which there was an English and a French garden in the golden days of this Villa Florida, of which there are still signs. It offers large trees, plants, and lovely exterior spaces that can be enjoyed today. Aside from needing a major overhaul of the kitchen and bathrooms, this 460m² home is incredibly beautiful. For sale via Lucas Fox for €1,850,000

A castle in Saint-Paul-en-Forêt, France

I keep coming across this home (located in Saint-Paul-en-Forêt, France) during my online castle stalking ventures and though I adore this castle the confusing and at times unsightly décor kept stopping me. But I realized that for much of this feature it is about dreaming of what could be. So if the interior is too much for you, keep your eyes peeled for the exterior photos. WHOA! For sale via Wretman Estate.
