Metallic paint frenzy

Posted on Fri, 28 Sep 2007 by KiM

I received an email the other day from Romesh Naik, who introduced me to the interior design work of Marcel Prins. Marcel’s photos on Flickr are very intriguing. The following are of a house in Munich with walls covered in 24 beautiful colours of metallic paint.

Double retro trouble!

Posted on Fri, 21 Sep 2007 by midcenturyjo

What better way to end the working week than a second dose of retro inspiration. Once again these images are scanned from Better Homes Decorating Ideas, Ruth Quatermaine, Meridith Publishing Company, 1967. Bedrooms bedrooms and more bedrooms. Master, guest and children’s rooms to love or loathe.

Ruthie Sommers

Somehow neither Jo nor I have posted about Ruthie Sommers. She is hugely popular in the design scene and as everyone knows, was on the cover of Domino’s first issue. She is a design goddess and her style rocks beyond words. She only has a few pics of interiors on her site but had many fab photos in her store’s (Chapman Radcliff Home) gallery. OH LA LA. I want it all.

Ready for your weekly dose of retrolicious rooms? These fabulous images are scanned from my favourite source The Practical Encyclopedia of Good Decorating and Home Improvement, Vol 13, Greystone Press, New York, 1971.

Mary McDonald

Mary McDonald is an interior designer out of Los Angeles and I adore her ethnic/eclectic style and use of intense colours and patterns. Her work has been featured on the cover of House Beautiful, House & Garden and Domino. “Through extensive travel throughout Europe and the Far East, she has created a personal signature that is eclectic, classic and clean. Her ability to combine European antiques, Chinoisery, and Indian influences, with Contemporary lines and an impeccable sense of color have made her one of the most sought after interior designers in Los Angeles.”
