A mood, a vibe, a certain something. Like a mumur, a ripple in the calm that builds and grows and reverberates. It’s a flag, a marker, a passage that doesn’t state the bleeding obvious but uses passion to tell the story. Original, creative, tailored, at times a little quirky. Soft furnishings are not often associated with these terms but then the work created by London-based Violet and George is not your average garden variety curtains and cushions. Their unique designs are born of their passion for textiles within interiors. Hairy goat ottomans, Spanish flamenco ruffle drapes, men’s tailored eames chairs and sexy lampshades are just some of my favourites from their portfolio. And for something completely out of the box (and definitely not for everyone) what I can only describe as a carnivorous bunny powder room. Now that’s quirky.

I have been on a neutral kick lately but I do appreciate when designs incorporate a bit of rustic with splashes of colour. This 97 m² apartment in the south of São Paulo, Brazil blends both beautifully. (Via Casa.com.br)

Traditional, mid century, contemporary or just quirky, photographer Nathan Schroder shoots them all. Schroder’s work captures the rooms we all dream about. Love the light, the composition, the angles. One minute formal, the next intimate. And the colour! Always centre stage. Painterly and passionate.

Midcentury meets contemporary. What happens when an interior designer buys a house from an architect’s house, a house designed and built in 1966? She respects its past and creates an inviting and stylish modern home for her family. The architect is Ervin Mahrer and the interior designer is Tina de Salis of Tina & Louise Interiors (sorry couldn’t find a website for either). Now it is for sale here. Sometimes real estate stalking induces serious, serious house envy. I’d love this Castlecrag home. It sits in a harbourside suburb of Sydney originally planned by Walter Burley Griffin surrounded by other midcentury gems. I thought I would include a picture from the original listing in 2009 (as well as a link) when Tina de Salis purchased the house just to show you the changes that have occurred. Amazing!
