Darkly

Posted on Thu, 3 Oct 2013 by midcenturyjo

Move away from the light my darling. Revel in the shadows. Deep within the bosom of this home, retreat, renew, resist the trauma of the harsh and jarring world. Live your life… darkly. Startling dark beauty by New York based Sawyer Berson.

Douglas Friedman – dark

Douglas Friedman again. This time it’s a shot in the dark. As much as I crave spaces bathed in white and brightness, dark and moody spaces are so dramatic and HOT. L O V E.

The Hedgehog’s nest

Posted on Mon, 9 Sep 2013 by midcenturyjo

This dark and moody apartment is in Rio de Janeiro may well be the nest of that spiny creature deep within the earth but no, instead it is the creation of Brazilian architectural firm Ouriço (Portuguese for hedgehog). Outside it may be bright and sunny and tropical but inside it is calm and cocooning with graphic punches and vintage finds. Love the hero wall of books, the industrial lights and the warmth of the wood. Like a den, a club, a nest.

Heaven

Heaven is dark and moody. No bright, white light. No pearly gates and fluffy clouds. No, it is an apartment in a Collingwood, Melbourne warehouse by Wolveridge Architects. Exposed brick, old timbers, leather, a slightly fussy wallpaper. Bliss. No, I mean heaven!

Max Zambelli – darkness

Max Zambelli is an Italian photographer that, with his camera lens, can turn a fantastic space into a FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC space that exudes drama and makes you want to see more. The spaces he has captured are so gorgeous and original that I am in complete awe. What a lucky guy to have experienced them personally. Here are a selection of dark interiors from his repertoire.

P.S. Sorry, no pets on furniture post today. I didn’t receive enough entries. 🙁 But go on over to my page and check out my herd’s new hangout!
