A little riot

Posted on Fri, 28 May 2021 by midcenturyjo

Let’s start the weekend with a little riot … of colour and pattern that is. Don’t let those beige rendered walls fool you. It’s all about floral wallpaper, Indian block print, vibrant suzani and bold stripes in this Madrid apartment by Marta de la Rica. Guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

Stunning stone

“Good design is in the layers of detail and the intention behind those details. It evolves. I love walking into a home, time and time again, to discover something new — a story yet to be told.”

Rustic yet sophisticated, beautifully curated with a minimalist earthy colour palette it is texture that is the star. Rough stone, smooth to the touch paster, weathered wood and the slub of natural fibres. Shady Canyon Villa in Laguna Beach by Intimate Living Interiors.

Towards the light

“It was a joy being asked to carry out a second renovation for this beautiful and significant heritage house, to accommodate a growing family. Architecturally, our approach was to delicately weave additional bedrooms and living spaces respectfully around the charming and dappled pink Heritage house. We created a dialogue of poetic curved volumes and light, internally and externally to enhance the beautiful space.”

From dark and moody to light-filled and open plan this new addition connects the house seamlessly to the garden while providing stylish and welcoming areas for family and friends to gather. Hawksburn House by Melbourne Susi Leeton Architects + Interiors.

A minimalist rental

“The Lilo apartment upgrade was designed to play to the strengths of the beachfront art-deco building and create a laid-back, sophisticated refuge for our client. As the client leases the apartment, we minimised heavy intervention and used material applications to transform the previously run-down site. A playfully resolved loose-furniture scheme creates lasting value.”

Minimalism sitting on a maximalist floor. No just kidding. Who says you can’t have a stylish home when you’re renting?

“GSDC’s objective was to create a feeling of laid-back luxury, true to Vancouver’s style. Curating a selection of unique and bespoke pieces from both local and international designers helped to create distinctive space true to Gillian’s signature style.”

And the biggest luxuries of all, the space, the views and that light! Fabulous contemporary Vancouver living by Gillian Segal Design Company.
